Babynames.com if you do an advanced search - you can search by origin.

babynamer.com (http://tools.oxygen.com/babynamer/)
behindthename.com (http://www.behindthename.com/)
Social Security data (http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/)

That's all really. I find a few good ones and stick to them.

I'll give an anti-vote to babynames.com. They have a terrible inaccurate database.

babynamesworld.com, because I like their advanced search feature. You can search for names with certain beginnings or endings or a certain number of letters. I usually find names I like there and then look them up on behindthename, because the meanings aren't always accurate. I also post on the forums occasionally.

Have you seen the advanced search (http://behindthename.com/search.php). There's really a lot you can just do directly at behindthename.

That's cool! I just like the one at BNW because you can find names that end in say, -don or -ley. Or, that start with certain combos of letters. I didn't see anything like that on BTN.

Yes, read the info on the page. If you enter *don or *ley you'll get names that end with those sounds. mar* or kat* would do the same, only starting with those sounds.

I second the vote for behindthename.com, as it's probably the only accurate, well-researched, verifiable site I've seen.

I also second the ANTI-vote for babynames.com. Lots of their information is wrong.

I like www.babynamer.com You can search by syllable and such its great for finding middle names etc.

I also LOVE http://www.babynamecombos.com/ This website lists a lot of names with possible nicknames that sound good. Its wonderful

As for meanings... behindthename is all i use :)

the only thing I like about babynames.com is the saved names list feature. I just like the way it's set up. aside from that, they're crap for meanings & sometimes for names at all (even ones that are not really all that 'out there'.)
