[identity profile] opaloctober.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
So ever since we lost our first baby in November 2005, we've wanted to name our daughter Taryn. Taryn is the name we chose for our first daughter on her birth and death certificate. We love the name. I've always wanted to name her after my maternal grandmother and great-grandmother, whose names are Willie, and Faye respectively.
We're expecting another baby girl April first, and my husband came up with the name "Taryn Willaye"....the middle name is just not growing on me and he loves it. Does anyone have any more suggestions that we could use? I thought about Taryn Willow Fayth....but i'm just not sure. What can we name her to honor my grandmothers???

Taryn is not my style, but not too bad. Willaye is awful though. Willow Faith is nice (Fayth looks bad with a y, and there's no reason you can't keep Faith -- it sounds the same).

What about Willa?

Willaye is awful...sorry, husband. :/

I like Taryn Willow/Willa Faith. I do not like the 'y' in Faith at all. I think it still gets the point across, the sound is there.

Or what about your grandmothers' middle names? I have always wanted to honor my paternal grandmother but did not like her first name of Nelwyn, nor any variants. Then I found out her middle name is Dean and thought that was so cool...so we're using it as a middle name for this baby, a girl. We would have used it for a first or middle name for a boy as well!

If Wilma is your grandmother's name and Willie is the other, can't you just use Willa in honor of both of them? Willie and Wilma are pretty similar. Or Willow if you prefer that one more.

I'm sorry, but Willaye is just...horrible. It looks made-up and misspelled. Taryn Willow Faith is much nicer. I also like the suggestion of Willa. Best wishes to you! :)

I like this! Taryn isn't my style, but with Willa Faye, it seems really classy.

I think Willaye is really hard to say and odd looking. I think Taryn Willow Faye or Taryn Willa Faye sounds fabulous. I think Fayth looks kr8ive and trendy.

You gave the first baby 'Taryn' as well? Idk, to me it would feel like taking away from the specialness of the name by naming the new baby the same. Would you name the new baby the same if the first had lived? If you're dead set on using Taryn again, id go with using it as a middle name instead. It just seems like bad luck and such to use it as the first name again. Willow Taryn Faith sounds just as nice.

Yeah, I agree with this. It's like you're taking away a part of this baby's identity by not giving her her own name.

I could see the new baby thinking she's merely a 'replacement' for her sister, though I'm sure its not meant that way at all.

Exactly! I can definitely see a little kid interpreting it that way.

Unfortunately, I agree with this. I think that it is owed to *both* daughters (the one who has passed and the one who is still to come) to have their own names. I think Taryn would be nice as a middle name to honor the first daughter, but I would never name 2 daughters the same if the first died (or lived for that matter). But that's just me.

it's not just you. it's me too. :)

Yeah, that was my first thought too. I would not recommend naming the second daughter after the dead first one. It's better as a middle name, but I'm not sure that I would want to think about my dead sister every time I was asked to fill out my full name on a document. If it were me, I would just name the coming child Willow Faye to honor the great-(great-)grandmothers, and forget about naming another child Taryn.

I agree with this too.
It's a perfectly good name, but I personally don't think it's wise to name the new baby directly after her dead sister. There's just something strange about it.

Willaye is awful, it has been making me crack up since I read it. The image that pops into my head is just some flamboyant gay guy saying Willy, but adding flair to it. Like on paper, it should be spelled ~Willaye~
I like the suggestion of Willa.
I'm not too fond of the spelling Fayth, either, even though I see where it's coming from.

SO GLAD I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO THOUGHT ABOUT THAT GAY GUY. He isn't real but he just leapt right into my head.

I think Taryn Willa Faye, like other suggested, is great. And I know a LOVELY young girl named Taryn so that name is all positive for me!
