What are some of your favorite girl names that start with the letter "A"? My favorite was Audrey, but I can't get past the negative feelings for it due to someone I disliked years ago. I also like Addison, but our last name ends in "son", so that's a no-go.

Why "A", you ask? I think it has a delightfully feminine quality, and I prefer more feminine names for girls.

TIA!

My sister's name is "Alexandria". I think the 'ria' sounds more feminine and pretty that 'ra'. I love it.

I think it has too many syllabes, but on the other hand it can shorten to "Dria" which is better than the usual Alex or Ally or whatever Alexandras usually go by.

My sis goes by "Alex". That is the SOLE reason I don't like the name. The nickname is too boyish.

I really like the name Aubri

But I think that might work best as a middle name.

I think the preferred spelling would be Aubrey, though.

Yeah, I know. But that's the way I like to spell it. Sorry.

That's fine; I'm just very much not a fan of kre8tiv spellings. It was mostly for the benefit of the poster. ;)

Audra. I actually prefer it to Audrey. I've only heard it once before, on a girl I went to gradeschool with.

I'm also contractually required to vote for Adrienne, as it is my name.

I was going to suugest Audra, as well. It's close to Audrey, without being Audrey (plus, it's the wife's name in It, and I just finished reading that book again, so it's stuck in my head)

I've never heard of the book It. but I knew the Audra in gradeschool well before I ever encountered the name Audrey, so it came as a surprise that that was the more common and popular version. I think it sounds too "little girl" and that Audra would age better.

It is a Stephen King novel, it was made into a TV movie in the early 90s, as well. It's a long book (nearly 1100 pages!) but is a really scary book, as well as being really well written. Gory bits aside, the story of 7 outcasts in the late 50's forming a team could be a really touching tale in itself. The killer clown with the ability to change to the kids' greatest fears is just really creepy gravy.

I like a lot of feminine names beginning with A, too. I really like Audrey, and don't go having problems with the name because someone who had it was a bitch. I really like the name Angela and I knew two bitchy girls in high school named Angela. Just remember that for every nasty person with a specific name, there's also a really nice person out there with the same name. Addison, I don't care for much. It reminds me of adder snakes or addition and sounds somewhat masculine to me. Other A names I like are
Adara
Alexa/Alexia
Alyssa (a bit popular I believe)
Angela/Angelina
Adriana (my current favorite)
Audrey/Audra
Ariana/Ariadne
Anastasia
Anna/Annalisa
Atalanta (don't ask)
Aurelia

I'm sure there are more but that's all I can think of right now.
