Just now, I was inspired to look up names that mean laughter. So I went to the advanced search at babynames.com, typed in "laughter" for meaning, and specified girl names. This is (honest to GOD) what came up:

Lol
The meaning of the name Lol is Laughter

The origin of the name Lol is American

Notes: Online acronym for "Laughing Out Loud"

babynames.com is like the equivalent of getting your celebrity news stories from the National Enquirer.

What? I planned on naming my kid Roflmao. They'd have a song dedicated to them and everything. ( And here's the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEWgs6YQR9A ).

The acronym maybe, but 'lol' is a Dutch word meaning 'fun'.

SO THERE!

It can be a nickname for Lola (at least it is in a French movie called "LOL (Laughing Out Loud)") but as a name meaning "laughter"? Seriously?

That site cracks me up. There are so many made up names on that thing. I went through every one of the girls names and half of the boys. there's one on there that's "ABCDEF" and it says "first letters of the alphabet" haha

Reminds me of the bit on Sesame Street where they phonetically pronounced all the letters of the alphabet as one word.

I was looking through a babyname book I picked up at Goodwill the other day. One of the boy's names in there is "Spidey - American, short for Spiderman."
