game time!
Dec. 4th, 2010 01:53 pmhey all! i noticed we haven't had a game in a really long time, so i procrastinated made one up :]
for some unknown reason, you are about to have six kids, three of each gender. great! you think, and sit down to make a list of your top names. but there's a catch: you're hypothetical significant other's family has a lot of weird naming rules that date back for centuries and (for the purposes of the game) you're not one to step on those rules' toes!
FIRST make a list of the top five names for each gender.
THEN click through to see the rules.
now that you have your lists, you sit down and try to figure out how these rules work. (okay some of the rules are ridiculous because i made them up before i decided to use a story, lol)
for girls:
you can't use names 1, 3 or 5, but you must use 2 and 4
all three combos must have either mythological or botanical first names beginning with the first initial in either the first or fifth name on your list
one name from the last movie you saw
for boys:
you can't use names 2, 3 or 4, but you must use 1 and 5
all must have the same middle initial that you started name 3 with (without using name 3)
one name from the last book you read
if you overlapped names on the list like i did, here are some extra rules:
1st overlap: virtue name
2nd overlap: name from a song on your top-played list
3rd overlap: month
4th overlap: color
see comments for my answer. hope that the rules made sense and that you had fun!
epilogue: you get all the rules figured out and ended up with some combos that you might not have thought of before. huzzah!

Date: 2010-12-07 04:02 am (UTC)with the original rules, you should end up with six names for each gender. however, for some of my name choices, the name i chose satisfied two name rules (eg, andromeda is both a mythological character *and* a character from harry potter), so i wound up haveing less than twelve names. in order to have enough names, i made up extra rules in case if other people ran into the same problem.
does that make sense? i made this a little more complicated than i thought :/

I didn't really order my original list so I could have cheated (for example, I have many more C boy names than D if I wanted to make it easier), but to play along, I left them in the random order I came up with them.
