No, I think it was the feminine form, and if I remember correctly, it seemed like the family might have been German or something, so a spelling like that wouldn't be incorrect.

Well, if they aren't American, I guess it would be fine. I just always associate the name Benedict (no matter what spelling) with traitor. I really wouldn't want that for my kid, kwim.
