I saw Lillian crop up on a post here a while ago (don't remember which one) and ever since it's been in the back of my mind. I'm too lazy to go back and look to see what everyone thinks of it, so I'll just ask for opinions again!! Also, middle names?

How would you pronounce the name Jaya? If you wanted it to sound like JIE-ah, how would you spell it? Then, of course, what do you think of it in general.

Then, I found these twin girls names on a myspace group, WDYT:
Fiona Brenna and Kaitriona Elizabeth ::gag::

And I have to ask.. what do you think when you hear the name Brooke Otis? (I don't know the middle name, sorry) I just wanna see if anyone else has the same reaction that I did...

I like Lillian. I like Jillian better.

I would pronounce Jaya the way you seem to want it pronounced JIE-ah. I love it. (I was actually trying to think of how I was going to write out the prounciation and then you did in the next sentence lol)

Fiona Brenna I could handle on a random child, but Kaitriona (wow) Elizabeth is just horrible IMO.

Brooke Otis. I hate it. Is it a girl or a guy? Brooke is pretty much a girl's name to me but Otis is definitely a male name. And there's another name on top of that? Poor child regardless of gender.

I like Lillian. I also like Lilith which is similar.

I would pronounce Jaya like the Jay in Blue Jay and an ah so Jay-ah. But if you want to pronounce it JIE-ah, I say go for it!

Fiona is very pretty, but I don't think it goes with Brenna. Kaitriona is, well, could they be trying any harder to make it rhyme with Fiona?! Elizabeth is nice though.

Too me Brooke is a girls name and Otis is a boys name so they look a little off together. But if one's last name is Otis, what's there to do? Every feminine name will look a bit odd next to it initially.

sounds like bronchitus. is that what it makes you think of too?

I would pronounce Jaya as Jay-uh. If you wanted Jie-uh... hmm. Jyah? It doesn't look very pretty, and you'd probably get "JYAH" (one syllable) shouted at you a lot... Jiah might do it, and that looks better. Jiyah, Jiya. But I might pronounce Jiya as Jee-uh. I like the name though.

JIE-ah to me would be spelled "Gia" or is that not what you were asking for.

I was just going to say that. Im thinking they may not be pronounces it the same way..

OH okay, yeah Gia is Gee-uh. I get what youre sayingg.
Jaya could for sure be said Jaya. I cant really think of a better way.

it also sounds kind of like precocious. Like a mixture of bronchitus and precocious. it's a bad combination.

I love Lillian. Lillian Grace has always looked pretty to me. Also

Lillian Faith
Lillian Kate
Lillian Elise
Lillian Renee

JIE-Ah... Stephanie tanner from Full House had a friend named JIE Ah and it was spelled Gia.

Jaiya? But I'm not really into this 'making up names' malarky.

Lillian is pretty.
Lily for short is prettier.

Middle names for Lillian:

Lillian Grace
Lillian May
Lillian Marie

Jaya would be pronounced "Jay-uh"

Spelling for it to sound like "JIE-ah" would be Jia, Jiah, or even Jiya.

I don't see anything wrong with Brooke Otis, since its just her last name.

Yeah. Well then I think Jaya is fine as it is. It only takes once to explain it to someone and they'll have it after that, it's not a big problem.

I think I would pronounce Jaya closer to Jie-ah than Jay-ah. I dunno though, I'm trying to remember how it sounded in Bride and Prejudice!

That movie is totally awesome. Yeah I think it's just a combination between the two sounds.

I am leaning towards "Jie" because if I saw the name Kaya, I think I would say "KIE-uh".

Kaitriona doesn't rhyme with Fiona.

Kaitriona/Katriona/Catriona are all pronounced like Katrina.

The o is really short.

They're all variants of Katrina.

Jya is the only spelling I can think of that I would definitely pronounce JIE-ah.
Jaya, Jaia, etc.. look like they could be Jay-a
and Jia/Gia could be "jee-ah"

Brooke Otis isn't the worst name in the world, although I wouldn't pick it. You don't have to say the full name all the time.

we are both right

well there are a few kinds of rhymes. The one you are referring to is Perfect Rhyme where things actually rhyme when you say them out loud, like certain and curtain. I am referring to Visual Rhyme which is a rhyme that looks similar but sounds different when spoken, like slaughter and laughter or in this case, where both names end in "iona".
