Amy or Aimée? If you prefer Aimée, with the accent or without?

Do you think this name is too common? I was excited because it's a baby name both FH and I like but when I looked it up apparently it's been more common than my name, Sarah, in recent years :/ I love my name but hate how common it is and wanted a less common name for our kid. I didn't think of Amy as common 'cos I know so many Sarahs but only one Amy. WDYT?

ETA: What about Amelia?

Amy. I think it's a classic name.

I prefer Amy, but it's not my style at all. It seems too common to me.. And dare I say, kind of boring.

I prefer Amy, and I do think it's common, but I still like it.
I've considered it for a middle name.

Per your edit, I like Amelia much better than Amy.

I like Amy better, but it's not really a name I would use. My childhood best friend was named Amy (well, still is, she's just not my best friend anymore) so it would be weird for me.

I prefer Amelia to either Amy or Aimee, but Amelia is even more popular. Amelia was 55 in 2009, Amy was 130 and Aimee was 819. And just for good measure, Amelie was 675.

I know a little Amelia that goes by Millie. She's 3 and I think it's adorable. =)

Aimee (French) is pronounced A-may, right?
I prefer Amy (English pronunciation), but I find the name really boring in general.

I know one Amy and one Aimee(no dash). Both are around 30 years old. There are about 4 Amelia's in my sons daycare ranging from 8 months to 3 years. Pretty popular! I like Both names but prefer the Aimee spelling.

I like Amy, but I LOVE Amelia. I like Aimée as well, but I would only use it if you're French and/or intend to pronounce it properly for that spelling.

I like Amy best. I think it's really classy, and I've never met a young Amy - only ones my age or older. I love the idea of it on a little girl.

I grew up with a LOT of Amys....many of the played with the spellings of their names through school, so I know still use them today. The Amys I know are mostly 20-40....although I was actually quite charmed the other day when I met the 9mo old daughter of one of our probationers....named Amy.

Amy is an old name that cycles in polularity. I think the most recent flux of popularity was so signifigant, that its really stuck in our minds. Remember Amy was one of the Little Women and Little Dorrit's real first name was Amy.

As an Aimee, I prefer Amy. Just because EVERYONE spells it wrong, even when told. (I tend to get Amiee a lot.)

And I much prefer Amelia. :)

And I've known of several Amelias that go by some variation of Amy, so that might work. :)

I know a Chinese student who choose her American name as Amy but always wished she'd chosen Aimee (so it would all be above the line when writing, haha)

I personally like Amy more, and I like both more than Amelia.

Go with Aimee, its less used and has more than 3 letters. Amelia is also really cute IMO. I was looking at baby names and Esme is also a diffrent spelling of Amy.. I think.. I could be wrong.

Im an Aimee and it works for me. I was really Amy but I changed it so it was more unique

Good luck :)

I prefer Aimee, without the accent.

I know a lot of people named Amy but they are all adults. I don't think it's popular for kids nowadays though.

And I like it. I also like Aimee. I would leave the accent off though.

I prefer the Amy spelling. In my experience, it does not seem to be as common as Sarah/Sara, but that could vary by geography.

Amelia is pretty, but I don't like saying it aloud.

I prefer the spelling Aimee, without the accent. With the accent it would be said like Em-AY. But of all the choices I like Amelia the best. :-)
