[identity profile] maude.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
At work yesterday I met a little girl named Burgundy and a little boy named Burk...hmmm. (They weren't together.)

I really like Burgundy. I prefer Burke to be with an e but I think I'd only use it as a MN anyway

Am I going crazy, or was there more to this post before? =S

I like Burk, but with an E (Burke). I like last names as first names for boys, so it works.

But Burgundy? Definitely not a fan of it.

Burgundy is okay.
And I love Burke.
Did he actually spell it Burk? that's so odd!

AH, no way. I got an email a while ago from a friend saying a girl who went to high school with us had a baby. Which, on its own, wow, but she named the kid Burgundy Quinn. It sounds like a stripper's name to me. (Sorry to anyone who likes it.)

Burk's fine.

Just out of curiousity, how old are you?

I'm 19, and the girl who had the baby is 18.

I've known two Burkes. One was a guy who I went to high school with. He was really cute back then. Ended up moving to Hollywood to become a big star. To my knowledge hough the closest he got was a Big Red gum commercial. Still it was cool to see him on that every time it came one. Oh, I take that back. I had to google him and found he's done more. Cool (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0730902/). Random, sorry.

The other Burke is my friends 4 year old son.

Burgandy doesn't do much for me, though it could be a lot worse. I don't tend to like B names in general.

All I can think of when I hear/see the name Burgundy is Ron Burgundy, from the movie Anchorman... needless to say, it leaves a sour taste in my mouth=)

In Britain at least, "berk" (pronounced the same as Burk) is slang for an idiot, heh. It's not that commonly used anymore, but I still would not name a child it, for that reason.

I, too, thought of berk. Burgundy is okay... for a wine. Otherwise I find it trashy, along the same lines of Satin, Brandy, etc.
