[identity profile] requiem-morrow.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Earlier posts got me thinking (don't be scared!) about noun names and pairing descriptive names/words with noun names (examples - Portrait and Scarlett Honey). What are some noun word/names that you like (or hate the least) and what are some combos that you think can work without making people vomit?

All the noun names on my list:

Hope
Violet
June

Bohemia
Cadence

Iris

So, just from all those names, I could probably make more than a few pairings that wouldn't be too awful.

I pretty much hate most noun names like Destiny, Charity, Grace, Joy, Hope, Faith. *gag* The worst is Chastity!

There are a few that I like, but very few.

I really hate vocation names like Hunter, Walker, Bridger, Shepherd, etc.

I totally agree about the vocation names! Mason, Archer, Rider/Ryder...blech!

Yeah, most abstract noun names are lame. :P The only two I can think of that I like are Grace and Temperance.

I have a few I like but just throwing in that Penelope Lane (Penny Lane) is totally an extremely guilty, cheesy pleasure.

In my writing, I actually use mostly word names...but I don't think it seems weird since everyone in my stories just has names like that. Most of them I wouldn't use in real life, but some of my characters' names include Oliver Bramble, Kite, Tell, Dashing, Bailey Mouse, Candour, Juniper, Brightly, Nomad...

Noun names I'd use in real life: June, Violet, West, Lily, Poppy, Olive. Can't really think of any others off the top of my head.

Most of my favorite noun names are flower/nature related, like Willow, Daisy, and Meadow. However, I do like the name Hunter (and I have since the early 90s!). Amethyst is another.

By the way, that doesn't necessarily mean I'd use these names...some of them are more like guilty pleasures.

Ruby

Poppy

The only abstract noun name I really care for is Temperance, but I don't see my husband letting me use that. :(
