Just looking at the SSN top 10, taking out the palindromes, there are a few that I think benefit from being turned backwards.

- Alexis becomes Sixela
- Alyssa becomes Assyla. Granted it's one letter away from the plural of asylum, and the first three letters are a bit problematic, but is it really that much worse?

There are too many "th" and "ph" combos in the male names to turn them nicely, unless you turn these letters together as a single sound.

linguistically, we probably *should* turn them around as a single sound. it's not the our fault that the english language doesn't have enough letters to express th, sh, ch, ph, etc, and we have to use 2 to accomplish that.

Also, all this backwards naming reminds me of Highschool. A girlfriend of mine and I used to write notes backwards to eachother (not the cleverest code to be sure). We got tired of that eventually, but we kept it up for the names of guys that we were discussing. I was actually going through my big shoebox of memories last night looking at notes of "I don't like Nomis, why does he keep staring at me." etc.

I wonder if that's how names like Nevaeh were spawned, by a bunch of girls writing backwards notes to eachother...

Thats funny...my friend and I used to give the guys girls names that started with the same letter...and used "she" instead of "he"...quite useful until we got into a huge fight over a boy and the letter got out that had a conversation that basically went like this

well, its not my fault that jennifer likes me and not you and i like her too
so get over it.

If you were really a good friend that you would just back off. grace likes you and i thought that you told me that you liked her so why do you like jennifer now? just because I do? I know she doesn't like me back but i really like her.

In middle school my best friend used to call me Ilhsa-- Ashli backwards.

When my brother was little, my dad convinced him that his name was really Mada Nosredna (his name is Adam Anderson) and he was from the planet Zorg and he had super powers and as he grew up he would develop them and eventually be able to fly. I can remember my brother trying to convince me (at about 4-- he would've been 7) that he was learning how to fly as he jumped off his top bunk of our bunk beds! Dad finally told him he was just messing with him when he ended up breaking out the window in our bedroom testing out his "super stopping powers" after running from one end of the house to the other with his fist out in front of him.. heh=)
