Help! Crisis!

When my husband and I were thinking of names for our daughter, we had basically decided on Kira. We were trying out middle names. My husband suggested Isis. We thought it sounded ok, until we realized if you said it too fast, it would say, "Kirisis." Like the umpire yelling Steeeerike! she would be Keeeeerisis!

We still joke how funny it would've been to name her Crisis Paulson. There are all those Hope, Faith, Charity, Rain, Summer, etc names. We should add some new ones to the mix. Crisis, Disaster, Typhoon, Tsunami, Destruction... Oh, I'm not good at this. Help me think of good negative word names.

(we did not name her Crisis or Kira Isis).

I kind of like the sound of Crisis... haha I guess that wouldn't exactly be the nicest thing to name a kid though.

Hmmm apocalypse! Now that would be a sweet name.

Avarice has a lovely sound to it.

what'd you end up naming her?

I like Tornado, Malice and Detriment. ;)

There was a girl who went to my school a few years ahead of me, and her name was Achzava, which in Hebrew means "disappointment". Warms the heart, eh?

I'm not sure they were fully aware--they liked the sound, it's from a Hebrew poem, if I'm not mistaken, and in the context of the whole sentence it translates to something like distress in its poetic meaning. But the word itself just means disappointment. So it is sad. At a certain point she started using her middle name. Maybe in high school? Her middle name was also Hebrew, but it was Rina ("happiness")--ironically enough.

I've always wanted to name a pair of kittens Chaos and Trouble. Chaos in particular has a fun sound imo; I just like the word.

There's the spanish name Soledad which means... ? Lonely? Solitude? I can't remember. Not awful, but kind of strange.

I dislike the name Mallory because it means unlucky, 'mal' being a root that's always negative, like in malignant.

Tsunami is spelled nicely. Although it also kind of reminds me of tiramisu, the dessert. Haha.

How do you pronounce your daugther's first name? Keer-uh? Ki-ruh?

[identity profile] x-lostinyou.livejournal.com 2006-07-21 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd guess it's Ki-ruh, based on the Crisis thing. (Keer-uh and Isis don't really sound like crisis to me...)

Keeerisis - I love it!!
I like Kira a lot, but that's probably because I'm a big nerdy trekkie and love the DS9 character :)

As for negative word names:
There was someone is some LJ community a while ago that DID want to name her daughter Avarice... And I know someone in this one really likes Envy...
Besides that, what about Lament, Violence, Malevolence, Pillage, Genocide (oh dear), Anorexia, Ebola, Malaria, Famine, Penury...

I think that went a little overboard :/

I met someone once who thought Collera (yes, like Cholera) would be a nice name.

I think Syphillus has a nice ring to it.

LMAO!!

I think Tirade- but spelled differently, like Tyraid- for a boy would be sort of fitting.

ti·rade ( P ) Pronunciation Key (trd, t-rd)
n.
A long angry or violent speech, usually of a censorious or denunciatory nature; a diatribe.
