Okay, so IMO some boys names can be used for girls. Riley for a girl is growing on me, and I even pondered using Zachary for a girl. Maybe.

But last night I was reading the birth announcements in the local paper, and saw that someone named their baby girl Marnie Benjamin

I am distraught.

Opinions?

Sounds nice together. I wouldn't name my kid something that masculine. Zachary seems more odd to me though.. haha

Haha, It sounds nice, just could get annoying.
I had a friend named Evann. Everyone assumed she was a boy.

I don't dislike Benjamin for a girl, but I'm not a fan of either name.

Riley to me is a girls' name. Zachary is a boys'.

Benjamin as the middle name doesn't bother me. Marnie however makes me want to stab my eye out.

at first I was like yea.. marnie is a girls name.. then it registered benjamin.. thats just strange... maybe its a family name... in some cultures I think I read something about the wifes fathers name being the first born childs middle name. I dunno.

As for Riley for a girl I love it.. but spelled Raleigh makes it more feminine

To me, Raleigh is pronounced raw-lee, whereas rally is pronounced raa-lee.
I do agree, though that Raleigh is a terrible spelling.
I think Rylie is the only way I'd ever change the spelling of Riley.

How about Rhiley? That's how I spell my cat's name (female)

seems too made-up.

My company does work for a 75ish year old MAN named Raleigh.

I think Zachary is just as bad as Benjamin for a girl, even if it is the middle name.

And I can't stand Riley and all it's variations either. But then, not many people share my taste..

Yeah I definitely don't like that name haha.

I wouldn't use MASCULINE boys' names for a girl, but I like names like Casey, Riley, Jordan (it's on my maybe-list), etc.

I'm distraught at Marnie. I give them the benefit of the doubt about Benjamin, it could be the Mother's maiden name or something.

Riley is my step-son's name. :) He's 6. (Not that it matters, but I love him and I'm proud.. lol).

My favorite thing to do at graduations this year was to look at the list of names and make fun of some of them or praise others... someone actually named their child Christopher Robin... my mom and I had a field day with that one (Sorry if that offended anyone here... but we thought it was cute).

My daughter's name is Rylee. We chose to spell it that way was b/c it looked more feminine to me and I wanted her teachers and stuff to clue into the fact it's a girl's name. Big mistake- everyone calls her a him or Raylee. I learned my lesson on alternative spellings. As far as Zachary for a girl- I think I prefer it for a boys name. And hopefully Benjjamin is a maiden name or something.

I hate boy names for girls. Riley is as bad as Benjamin and Zachary. Neither are more "feminine" or "unisex" no matter what kind of kreeyative spelling you use.

Marnie Benjamin is unfortunate because not only does she have a masculine middle name, but she's got an awful first name as well. =/

Hideous. But what makes Zachary any better than Benjamin? At least it's in the middle slot.

and Riley is a super immature, childish sounding name for either a boy OR a girl.

Marni is Hebrew for "rejoice." This is not an uncommon name in Poland.

Benjamin is SOOOOO masculine to me. A affront to name IMO. :/
