I like the name Carley a lot, and my MIL's name is Carla. So I ask a for your opinions:

1] Is Carley one of those too-cutesie names like Kaylee, Keeley, etc?
2] Besides Carla, can you think of any other name for which Carley could serve as a nickname?
3] We also really like the name Charley; between the two which do you like better?
4] Carley? Carlie? Carlee? Which is the better spelling?

TIA :)

I know a girl named Carly, she's in her mid twenties and I think it's a nice name, not too cutesy.

1. It borders on cutesy (as I think most names ending in the lee sound do), but it's a legit name.
2. Caroline, Carolina, Carlene, Carmen, Carolyn, Charlotte
3. I prefer Carley.
4. Carley or Carly. Carlie and Carlee look like you're trying too hard.

My cousin's daughter is Carly. It's cute.

1] I know a 23-year-old Carlye (not a typo) and a 18-year-old Carly. I've never thought it to be a cutesy name. Also Carly Simon, who is 65.
2] Carley could be a nickname for Carmella, Carlene, Caroline, really any name starting with Car-.
3] I don't like Charley for a girl. Charley is a good nickname for a boy named Charles.
4] I prefer Carly or Carlie.

3) Carley.
4) Carlie.

For some reason I find C names to sound more sophisticated than K names, so I don't feel that Carley is cutesy like Kaylee or Kylie.

Carley could be a nick for Carolina or Caroline. Carla is nice too. : )

I prefer Carly over Charley/other spellings.

1) imo, definitely not.
2) i agree with all the other suggestions, basically anything that starts with car-
3) i like carley better, but i think charley would be a good nickname for charlene, which i like better than carley
4) carley or carly, possibly carlie. not carlee or any other variation

1. I think it's cutesy, but not as much as Kaley or Haley.
2. Carlin, Caroline
3. I like Charlie more as a nickname. Basically, Fullname for Charlie > Carly > Charlie as a full name. Does that make sense?
4. I think the girl I know spells her name Carly. For some reason, Carley looks a bit odd to me, but it's better than Carlie or Carlee.

1. Not AS bad.
2. See above answers. I like Caroline myself.
3. Meh.
4. Carly.

I like Carly (no e). I like Carly much better than Charley. Charley would be ok as a nickname for Charlotte, but I still prefer Carly.

I like Carly enough, but not Carley!
I think it could age better than it sounds, but it would depend on personality.

IMO, Charley/Charlie is just odd on a girl.
I'm thinking of the Charlie in Friends.

1] To me it's really cutesy because it makes me think of iCarly: http://www.icarly.com/

2] Carlotta, Carlin, Carleen, Carlyn, Carlinda

3] I (dis)like them both equally. I do like Charlotte with Charlie as a nickname, though.

4] Carly but of your choices, Carley.

For some reason, I don't find it cutesy. I guess because I've only met "older" girls by that name (twenties).

I prefer Carly, and I definitely prefer Carl(e)y to Charley!

Carly is one of my favorite names! I prefer it spelled Carly (without the "e"). I don't think it's too cutesie :)

I think Carly is a nice name, and that's how I'd spell it. However, since it's so similar to your mother in law's name, it could cause some problems at family gatherings. My mother in law and I have enough issues with mixups since she's Kathy and I'm Katie.

I do prefer Carly over Charley/Charly/Charlie. I've known a girl named CharlyAnne, but I still can only think of it as a nickname--a masculine one, at that.

Carly could also be a nickname for Carlisle (though that's a male name). Maybe even Carol or Caroline? (that might be a stretch)

1) Nah, I don't think so. I really like it

2) Anything starting with Car, as many people have said.

3) Carly, definitely. I don't like Charley on a girl, unless it's just as a nickname.

4) Carly is the one I like the best.
