this, exactly. i, too, am an amanda :) i don't quite understand how amanda >> maddie, but it's definitely better than people trying to force the mandy nn on you your whole life.
I like it. There's also a little girl who's mother is a patient of ours. Her name is Amanda Madelyn, and we all call her Maddie. They named her for her mother's sister who passed, but she generally goes by Madelyn.
Most of the Amanda's I have known in my life went by Manda--and two of them went by Manda Panda!--so it's interesting to see Maddie used. I like the idea, even though it seems like every other girl these days is named Maddie.
I'm one of the Manda Pandas that you speak of. :) The name on my high school ring was even Manda; almost all of my friends include my first name and call me by Manda Jo. Out of all the Amandas I've met [it's VERY common where I live; my partner's name is ALSO Amanda lol], I've only met one or two others that went by Manda so that's neat that there are many more out there that do.
With that being said, I Still would've much rather grown up being called Maddie than Manda.
