[identity profile] wiccanfire11.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I've been trying for years to get my boyfriend to have a discussion about baby names with me. We are definitely not expecting anytime soon, but I finally got him to have a semi-lengthy discussion. The only thing we've both agreed upon is that Peyton has to be used, but only for a boy (He's a huge Peyton Manning fan) and that I don't want my kid to have to go by their last name initial since I was always Amanda K. in school.

I was looking for some help to find more that he may actually like and also get some middle name suggestions because I'm horrible with pairings.

Here's what we've agreed upon:

Girls:
Bianca
Freya
Maggie (I want a full name that he will agree on that isn't Margaret)
Jocelyn
Noelle
Nora

Boys:
Byron
Elias
Greyson
Mason
Peyton

well it's nice to know you have a say in what your potential kids will be named.

Uhhh, I hate Peyton, and it doesn't go with the rest of the names on your list. I do like a lot of those - like Bianca, Freya, Noelle and Nora. I don't mind Jocelyn and I like Maggie as a nickname. I have a cat named Magnolia with the nn Maggie.

For boys, I really like Elias. I feel like your girl names are so different from your boy name choices. The girls are so "sophisticated" and the boys seem trendy and insubstantial.

Byron is nice. I have bad associations with it, but it's still a valid, nice, old-fashioned name. He may change his mind once you have a child. I wouldn't name my child after a football player, because well, things change, *cough* Brett Favre *cough* (yeah, I'm a Packer fan and I bet some people named their kid after him and now I can't stand him). Anyway, like I said, hopefully his mind changes. Maybe Peyton could be a middle name if not? I think Byron sounds so much better with the rest of the names you listed.

Maggie, Nora and Mason would be too popular then IMO. I've only actually heard Peyton used for a girl, actually.

I know a Maggie whose name is actually Mary Agnus. We bonded at one time because we both had "nun names". Mine is Mary Frances. I don't think she went by her given name anywhere. She was always Maggie as far as I knew.

It hurts my heart a little that my little sister might have a kid named Peyton...I so wish Calvin would change his mind because Peyton is so trendy!

Your names have tamed over the years...I remember when you used to love the name Phaedra.

Your girl names are all very pretty! Magnolia would be a pretty full name for Maggie. Other ideas: Magdalena, Megan, Morgan/Muirgen, Morgana, Magali, Magenta, Margot, Marigold, Morag, Morrigan

Freya Noelle or Freya Jocelyn are nice combos.

Boy names all seem to sound the same lately! Greyson, Mason, Peyton...all two syllable names ending in the -on sound that will blend in with all the other Greyson, Mason, Peyton, Jason, Landon, etc. names. If you like Greyson, maybe you'd like Grey? It's nice and masculine like your other choices but a little more unusual. :)

Some other ideas that kind of go with your list:
Liam
Lucas
Owen
Patrick
Mitch
Malcolm
Neil
Eric
Calvin
Caleb
Bryce
Seth
Jared
Peter
Garret
Isaac
Matthew
Jonas/Jonah
Joseph
David
Reuben
Cain
Aaron
Zachary
Joel
Tyson
Derrick
Jonathan
Vincent
