Okay, my husband would really love if we have a son, that we'd name him Emery Lee Rodriguez Jr.

I'm not totally opposed to the idea, I'm just not completely in love with it either...

My question here is, IF we did name him Emery Lee Rodriguez Jr. would it make sense if we called him M.j.? My thinking is that my husbands family, and I call him "Em" for short. So Em + J = M.j... Follow?

The only reason I'm asking is because my husbands brother's name is Emmanuel Jacob, but he has gone by E.j. his entire life, so I really don't want to name my son Emery Lee Jr. and call him Ej..

Emery Lee Rodriguez Jr. = M.j.?

Absolutely. M-ery Jr. = MJ

You can call your kid whatever you want, nickname wise. It doesn't have to derive from their name.

I think that's totally fine, although I probably wouldn't spell it that way. Even though it looks funny, I think I would spell it Em.J. or something, because M.J. just doesn't *look* right in this case, even though it sounds fine.

I like MJ and I think it would work.

Another idea, kind of a stretch, but Eli?

Personally I loathe naming kids after their parent, especially if it is a Jr. It always seems to me like either the dad is trying REALLY hard to live an legacy through his son, or they couldn't come up with a name unique to the child.

Just my personal opinion. As for the MJ, I would be confused by the initials and think that you attempted to name him after Michael Jackson.

Me too. I love continuing old legacies (4, 5, 6, 12, etc) but starting a new one... bleh.

I don't know, any Jr.'s I know most always end up being called "Junior" in the end.

I think MJ is a cute nickname idea. But you might not like the fun he has with it in college.

MJ is a nickname for marijuana.

I think that's fine! My friend is named Emily Julia, and her sister sometimes calls her Em J.

I agree with the idea that it sounds okay, but the M.J. doesn't look right. Something like Em-J or something, maybe.
