Pronounced: KAR-is

I just learned about Charis Wilson, and instantly loved her name. What do you think of it?

Also: spelling; an alternative spelling is Kharis, but some people will say, "Why the H?" and spell it Karis.

I usually favour classic spellings, so, if I had to pick, I'd choose Charis.

I know a little girl names Charis, she's 6 or 7 now I think. It's a beautiful name.

I just read a book where one of the main characters had that name, spelled Caris.

I prefer it with a "C" or a "Ch" over with a "K" or "Kh."

I love it. My sister-in-law loves it, too, and I thought she would even name her baby that, but she chose something else. Anyway, she was pronouncing it CARE-is but given that it's a Greek name I would think KAR-is is indeed more accurate.

I actually just named a character this for a fantasy world, spelled as Carys (a legitimate spelling, not uneeqk). Apparently it means love in Welsh? It's very pretty.

Carys is indeed Welsh (caru = love). Charis is Greek, meaning "grace", "kindness". :)

Funny, because it's just a matter of spelling.

I think it's a pretty name, and I would definitely go with either Charis or Carys. The Kh- just looks so trashy to me, tbh. Too Kardashian.

Its a very pretty name, and definitely off-the-beaten-path. I'd go with the Carys spelling personally, because its much more likely people would know how to pronounce it.

Is that how that name is pronounced. I've seen it before, but I always pronounced is Sha-REESE.

I like the pronunciation of KAR-is, but prefer the spelling of Carys.
