If you really liked a name and then got a serious crush on someone with that name, but never ended up in a relationship with the person, would it make you rethink using the name in the future?
That is a really interesting question actually. I've had to take Blake, Graham, Patrick, Ryan, and Adam off of my list because of guys I've dated.
The only guys I've had long-term crushes on that never came to fruition are guys whose names I don't really like anyway: Taylor, Brian, and Robert "Bobby".
I wouldn't have thought so once upon a time, but now so many years have passed where I haven't had a "crush" on anyone other than my husband that now those people don't even enter my mind anymore when I think of their names!
I would only rule out the names of my two previous boyfriends- even my boyfriend when I was 14's name would be usable as it's such a distant association now. But I don't like the name enough anyway so that doesn't matter!
It would entirely depend on how much I loved the name. Like, if I fell madly in unrequited love with a man named Deacon, I'd still want to use the name later unless he REALLY hurt me, because it's been my favourite male name for a long time.
I don't think so, really. I guess it depends on the crush. I had a mini-crush on a guy in my English class this semester, and his name is Benjamin, which is my favorite boy's name and has been for quite some time. But then the crush faded away after a few days :p maybe if I was crushing for years or something, but ... I don't know. It all depends on the name, too, I think. If I know a lot of people with that name then I won't just associate it with the one person, but if it was a name I hadn't heard of until I met them, then I'd be more iffy.
it would totally depend on how my husband felt about it. but then, the names I like to the point of considering using are usually pretty rare so it's not much of an issue.
I had an old friend who had a total crush on someone for so long I can only think of one other person (besides her husband) that she crushed on this bad. incidentally, she ended up naming her first son this guys name because her husband insisted (it was his grampa's name). she didn't want to. but it's one of the most popular names out there (you could probably guess it) so that's not much of a big deal.
Maybe, as long as there were quite a few years between the birth of my child and the crush in question. An ex-boyfriend - no way, but a crush - possibly.
My uncle named my cousin Andrea after a girl he was in love with for years but never got the courage to speak to. I wonder how my aunt felt about that!
I dunno. The only two really major crushes I had besides my boyfriend were both named Brandon, and that's my brother's name, plus it's not my style. And my only ex-boyfriend was named Brett and I don't like that name much either.
I suppose hypothetically I might. I would have to really really *love* the name, though. Otherwise, there are other names out there with less awkward associations.
