Anjali Patrick, for a girl

My cousin, Patrick, has a wife who is from India (well, her family was, they've been in the US at least a generation or two). Her name is Rupali. Her younger sisters are Senali and Shefali (don't know how to spell those, but I spelled them how they sound). It's kind of odd that they all have names that end in "AW-lee." The accent on all of those is the middle syllable.

A few months ago, Rupali and Patrick had a baby girl named Anjali (AWN-juh-lee--accent on awn, not jah). Her middle name is Patrick. I asked my grandma (who was the one who showed me the birth announcement that I hadn't seen before) why her middle name is Patrick and apparently Rupali's middle name is her father's first name as well. I guess it's tradition, but I don't know if it's Indian tradition or a family tradition. Does anyone know?

Before I learned it was a traditional thing, I was thinking Anjali Patrick was an awfully weird name and couldn't imagine what they were thinking. But now that I know, I actually kind of like it. Funny how knowing the significance behind a name came change your feelings on it...

I know an Anjeli. It's spelt slightly different. E not A, and pronounced an, rather than awn but that's probably accent differences. I think it's very pretty. Is the name from India, my friend is the mosr blue eyed blonde thing you can imagine! Suits her thoug, as i think of an angel lol
