i have a question.
do you (or someone you kno) have a common (or slightly common) easy to pronounce name that is constantly mispronounced?

the name i go by most is my middle name. which is Katherine.
very common name, very easy to pronounce, no?
but most of my family members pronounce it Kath-Ern, rather than Kath-Er-In, especially my mom (she named me for cryin out loud lol)

i live in Tennessee so idk if this is a southern dialect thing or not, but sometimes it annoys me (most times i don't even recognize it tbh) i mean, it's been happening for 26yrs now, so i'm fairly used to it, and i guess it's not something i can't reallyl change since like 99% of my family pronounce it that way. what's funny is when i introduce myself to ppl, i pronounce it as Kath-Er-In not Kath-Ern.

the reason i asked this question is because i was in CVS the other day and this little girl was named Jessica (very easy name to pronounce you would think) but her grandmother kept pronouncing it Jess-Kuh. and i told my mom that i hated that. like, if she couldn't pronounce the name she should just call the lil girl by a nickname or something imo..of course, my mom didn't do that 0_o

I live in Georgia and I say "cath-rin," as do most people I know. I am guilty of "jess-kuh" occasionally. I try not to because I know it makes me sound dumb, but it's just one of those things. I'm a fast talker so the "ih" in "jess-ih-kuh" gets smushed.

My friend Leah ("lee-UH") is constantly called Lee. My friend Kylie ("KY-lee") gets called Kyle or "kee-lee" occasionally. Most people pronounce my name "MUH-liss-uh" although I say it more like "mel-ISS-ah".

I'm Diana and I'm constantly getting called Diane. I hate it so much - to the point now where it's supposed to be pronounced dye-an-nah but I don't care if you say dee-an-nah, just as long as you don't say dye-anne. There's a third syllable there, it's not optional!

yes, I agree with this. I was at a funeral a few weeks ago and when they read the eulogy, the names of all the people that the deceased had been survived by were mispronounced, and they were simple. This southern baptist preacher said Justice instead of Justin, DIE-lawn instead of dylan, and Jenna instead of Gina. Awful.

I've always had a hard time distinguishing slight name pronunciation differences. For instance, I had a friend name Erin who would get frustrated with me because apparently I was constantly pronouncing her name Air-in not Er-in.

My name is Amanda but I go by Mandee and those two E's just throw everyone off and people sometimes call me Man-Day. People also often assume that my parents just straight up named me Mandee.

Also, my boyfriend is named Calvin but people call him Kevin sometimes. (I'm guilty of it but my brother is named Kevin so I think I'm excused.)

My name is Julianne, which .. I always thought it would be easy to say, you know? Juli + anne. But I get Julian ALLLLLL the time. Other versions are Jillian, Juliannie (wtf, physics teacher in high school? wtf?) or sometimes just Julie, but I'm never sure on that last one if they're trying to call me by a nickname or just see the first part :p Julian pisses me off the most. Thats so weird, people never (I wanted to say almost never, but when I think about it, yeah, everyone's done it at least once) call me Diana, even after I introduce myself and say my name. "Hi, I'm Diana!" "Nice to meet you, Diane." Um, what? Seriously, next time that happens I'm going to say "Nice to meet you, Kevin" - unless their name is actually Kevin, and then I'm saying Angela. Kinda makes me angry that they call you Diana, because where are those people when meeting me? One of my close friends is named Christine, and she is called Christina soooo much. In a class we shared in middle school, the teacher called her that throughout the year. On one of the last days of school, I kind of laughingly pointed out that it was actually Christine, not Christina, and the teacher got seriously pissed at me for mentioning it. That reminds me of when I was younger and read the Nancy Drew series, and I always thought George's real name was Georgeea. When I got older, it finally dawned on me that it said Georgia. At that age, I think that part of me just assumed that the state and name would be pronounced different; though at the same time, it didn't even dawn on me that it was spelled like the state (or country).
