Names... oh man.
Aug. 8th, 2010 09:38 amI haven't posted here in years... but I've been reading for the past month or so, and was tempted to post.
I'm about 15 weeks pregnant with baby #2! =]
My daughter is 4 1/2 years old, and her name is Bella Mary. (Yeah, she was named Bella before I knew Twilight even existed. Just for the record.)
So, here's the dilemma. If #2 turns out to be a girl, we're thinking Lucy or Molly. Suggestions for other short-ish girl names that don't sound ridiculous with Bella would be greatly appreciated. (ie. no two-syllable names that end in -a... you know.)
And for a boy... we're kind of stuck. His last name will be Verdolino and it seems like most of the names we like would sound a little weird paired with it. Griffin was our first choice, but we're thinking it doesn't flow very well.
The only other things we both like are Max and Charlie, but both seem a little too nickname-y, especially Charlie. I don't like Charles, at all. Maximillion is a no-go, and I'm not sure about Maxwell. Are there any other options for either Max or Charlie????
And, because posts are more fun with lists of names...
Children in my daughter's class, ages 4-5. Siblings in parentheses if known. =]
Boys:
Cooper (Rebecca)
Cameron
Lucca
Jack
Colby
Nicholas
Billy & Joe - Twins
Jake
Girls:
Bella
Audrey
Sophia
Bianca
Sadie (Valerie nn. Val)
What do you think? =]

Date: 2010-08-08 02:18 pm (UTC)Lucy is very nice. Lucy sort of anchors Bella so it's not so Twilight-ish, if that makes sense.
Girls:
Piper
Ruby
Olive
Boys:
Asher
Oscar
Beckett

Date: 2010-08-08 07:35 pm (UTC)I REALLY like Ruby, and I keep forgetting to mention it in our name discussions. Thanks for reminding me. =]
Piper and Olive were actually both on my original list... and were quickly vetoed. =/
I'm really kind of digging Asher.
Thanks for the suggestions!

Date: 2010-08-08 03:15 pm (UTC)Of the girl names, Molly sounds a little better with Bella for a sibset and would be less diminutive when she's an adult. I don't think either of them really sounds wonderful with you last name though. Have you considered Lilian? (Even if it's popular, Bella and Lily would sound cute together). Or what about a classic name like Alice or Claire? I don't read Twilight either, so if any of those names are characters from the books then definitely you'll want to avoid them ;)

Date: 2010-08-08 07:43 pm (UTC)There's a family member names Lilian already, but I do agree that Bella and Lily sound cute. =]
There's an Alice in Twilight. hahaha.
I think I've suggested Claire and it was vetoed. I LOVE it, though. =]
Thank you!!!

Date: 2010-08-08 07:32 pm (UTC)Molly... I've never heard of being a nickname or short form of anything. I may be wrong, though.
The name Max doesn't seem too nicknamey to me... I think it's only because it's so short. I'd use it by itself, just looking for other suggestions.
Charlie is quite obviously a nickname for Charles, there's no other reasoning here.
Annnndddd that's all. Hope I cleared that up for you. =]

Date: 2010-08-09 01:09 pm (UTC)Mary - Molly
Sarah - Sally
John - Jack
Lucille - Lucy
Elizabeth - Eliza
Anyway, to answer your original post:
I like both Molly and Lucy. Unfortunately all the Molly's I've known in real life haven't given me the best impression of the name outside of liking how it sounds. Bella and Lucy sound better than Bella and Molly to me. As do Bella and Max compared to Bella and Griffin.
How about: Jack, Henry, Larry, Cecilia, Amelia (Amy), Rose?

Date: 2010-08-09 05:48 am (UTC)How about another name that means "beautiful"? Isolde, Naomi, Tegan, Mei, Calista
For a sibset, I'm almost certain my first son and daughter will be Isabel and Asher. So I suggest Asher. I also like Beau, Cavan, Joel, Joseph, Luke
Max you could use possibly as an alternative nickname for Matthew?
