I'm due in January... See!!

My husband and I really really like the name Devin/Devan... But we can't decide on spelling..
...Although I'm leaning toward 'Devin.'
Here were my ideas for his middle name... What do you think? Last name is Morris, btw...
Devin Isaac
Devin Esau
Devin Shane
Devin Levi

Please be honest. I know sometimes we don't think clearly and end up with two names that both sound like first names, lol... So tell me if I did!!
And I'd like suggestions :)

I like it spelled Devon and haven't seen other spellings, I guess! I love the it with Isaac, but I'm biased as I love that name.

[identity profile] spaceandclouds.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
Same for me! I like Devon best too.

[identity profile] schexyschteve.livejournal.com 2010-08-05 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Phew! I'm glad you're using Devin on a boy! I see it often on girls, and I'm like, NOOOOO! Devin and Devon are the most standard spellings I've seen. I've never seen Devan before, and I really don't like it.

Devin Morris sounds really nice! It's a cute name for a little boy, but I can still see it on an adult. Out of the middle names, I like Devin Isaac.

[identity profile] ohhvelocitygirl.livejournal.com 2010-08-05 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
devan and devin don't seem like they'd be pronounced the same?

[identity profile] lisasimpsonfan.livejournal.com 2010-08-05 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the name Devin (Devon). I have a good friend with that name so I am a little bias. I would skip Isaac as a middle name because that will give him DIM for initials. I like Esau or Levi.

[identity profile] wowthatisminty.livejournal.com 2010-08-05 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Devan seems like it'd be pronounced differently.

I like the name Devin, but I'm biased; I've been in love with a Devin for six years (from afar).

Out of your list, I like Devin Isaac the best. Devin Levi is cute but the names share a few too many letters. The Devin I know is Devin Solomon Lastname.

I much prefer the Devin spelling. Devin Isaac sounds great!

Seconded!

I prefer the Devin spelling. I know one who's two and he's a doll.

[identity profile] solitudete.livejournal.com 2010-08-05 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I prefer Devin over Devan. (For some reason Devan makes me think of a divan.)

I really like Devin Isaac Morris, although the initials would be DIM.

[identity profile] greyhowl.livejournal.com 2010-08-05 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I've only ever seen Devon! I think I prefer "in" over "an" though!

[identity profile] aquilinum.livejournal.com 2010-08-05 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
To me: Devon is okay. Devin is a bit less okay. Devan is not okay at all.

[identity profile] frost.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
This.

[identity profile] nobodynomore.livejournal.com 2010-08-05 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
How would Devan be pronounced differently? I'm genuinely curious.

Dev-an. Said altogether, sounds the same as Devin/Devon. My husband's best friend is named Devan, and maybe it is just my area, but Devin is rare.

With Devon I always want to say Duh-von.

[identity profile] schexyschteve.livejournal.com 2010-08-05 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I could see it being prn. as duh van

[identity profile] nobodynomore.livejournal.com 2010-08-05 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess I am just used to that spelling, since I only know Devans/Devons (most Devons are girls, too!)

[identity profile] snoglobel.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
One is Dev-Inn, one is Dev-Ann, and one is Dev-On

All three are Very different to me, and I know people who spell them all three ways and use three different pronunciations. I've only seen Devin on a girl (well, I guess woman, since she is 25), and Devon on a boy (about 10-12?), and know one of each Devan's both much younger.

[identity profile] miss-tee.livejournal.com 2010-08-05 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I know this wasn't one of your two choices but I prefer it spelled Devon.
I like Devon Isaac and Devon Levi

[identity profile] winninghearts.livejournal.com 2010-08-05 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Devin Isaac best! That sounds fantastic.

I definitely prefer Devin over Devan.

[identity profile] speakingsoul.livejournal.com 2010-08-05 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
This is a boy, right? I know a girl named Devon, so I think Devin would be the bet male spelling.

Yes, I definitely prefer Devin to Devon

I'm not sure about your middle names though, they're all really nice. I like Shane the least though.

Devin - It is of Irish and Gaelic origin, and the meaning of Devin is "bard, poet". May also possibly mean "young deer". May also come from the French "divin", meaning "divine, perfect".

Isaac - It is of Hebrew origin, and the meaning of Isaac is "laughter". Biblical: the only son of Abraham by his wife Sarah.

Esau - It is of Hebrew origin, and the meaning of Esau is "hairy". Biblical: Esau, the older twin brother of Jacob, was a skilled and adventurous hunter.

Levi - It is of Hebrew origin, and the meaning of Levi is "joined". Biblical: Levi, third of Jacob's 12 sons, became father of the Levites tribe that was later assigned priestly duties.

Oh, I just noticed your last name is an M. If you did Devin Isaac, his initials would be DIM. That's not too good. DEM is less of a problem, but actually now I think about it, Esau was the one that traded his birthright for stew.

So I think I like Devin Levi best. Doesn't spell anything with the initials, has a good meaning and good Biblical references. (makes me think of "Levites and priests, offerings and feasts" from the Walk Through The Bible)

[identity profile] speakingsoul.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
I see. Isaac is very appropriate then. I think it would've been my favorite if not for the initials spelling DIM. If that doesn't bother you though, go ahead. Alternately maybe you'd like to think about naming him Isaac Devin instead. You seem very connected to the name Isaac, I feel like that might be your real favorite.

Remember that Abraham was also tested and almost sacrificed Isaac but at the last minute God didn't make him do it.

If you'd like some more suggestions for Biblical middle names, there are some more of Jacob's sons you might like.

Simeon - is pronounced SIM-ee-on. It is of Hebrew origin, and the meaning of Simeon is "to hear, to be heard; reputation". Biblical: the second-born of Jacob's 12 sons, Simeon was a holy old man who was promised that he would see the Messiah before he died; when the infant Jesus was presented at the Temple, Simeon recognized him instantly.

Judah - It is of Hebrew origin, and the meaning of Judah is "the praised one". Biblical: Judah was the fourth of Jacob's 12 sons.

I know a family at my church that just had a new boy and named him Judah. He's got brothers named Titus and Ezekial.

Joseph - It is of Hebrew origin, and the meaning of Joseph is "Jehovah increases". Biblical: the son of Jacob who, sold by his brothers into slavery, rose to become a supreme power in Egypt. Also Jesus' earthly father, a carpenter.

Benjamin - It is of Hebrew origin, and the meaning of Benjamin is "son of the right hand; son of the south; son of my old age". Biblical: Benyamin was the 12th, youngest and most beloved son of the patriarch Jacob and Rachel

I have a friend who is a pastor whose son is named Simeon and I just can't get myself to like it. Sounds exactly like simian (aka monkey...)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/___heyvanity/ 2010-08-05 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I think my favorite is Devin or Devon. Just out of curiosity, what about Donovan? I think it's super close but a little bit more... strong?

I work with a girl named Devon.

I like Devin Isaac, I would like Devin Levi but the repetition of "evi" is a little odd looking. What about Devon Levi?

Spelling-wise, I prefer Devon.
Devin Isaac is my choice.

[identity profile] cathblue7.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
I'd go with the DEVON spelling...I know boys named Devin and Devon but I think DEVON is the more traditional speliing for a boy...I love Devon James or something traditional for a second name...Devon Mattthew, Devon Joseph etc.

[identity profile] wolfbane.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
If you name him Devin Isaac, his initials will be "DIM" :(

[identity profile] duckduckcaboose.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I know a lot of people are telling you to go with Devon over Devin, but to me, Devon is the feminine spelling and Devin is the masculine. I know there's not really a hard and fast rule like Sidney is masculine/Sydney is feminine, but still. I know 2 girls named Devon and 3 guys named Devin.

As others have said, I like the name Devin Isaac the best but not the initials it would give your son. What about Devin Zachary? It has a similar sound and Zachary has Biblical roots (Zechariah).

[identity profile] blue-roan.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't like Devin/Devan/Devon. Out of the middle names you chose, I like Issac the best.

[identity profile] pyrokitten77.livejournal.com 2010-08-07 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
I like Devon Isaac.

[identity profile] smasharash.livejournal.com 2010-08-07 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Devin Isaac Morris works well.

I'm due December/January too :) Have you checked out [livejournal.com profile] jan2011?

I think Devin is a fine spelling; I also like Devon (might be the more common spelling?)

I really like Devin Isaac and Devin Esau, even though Esau isn't usually a conventional namesake :)
