My great-great aunt was named Myrtle Fern. I don't recommend that.
Since Fern is rather old school (not in a bad way -- I think it's got a cute classic feel to it, the same way as names like Hazel or Harriet, two of my favorites), I think I'd go with something a little less old sounding, you know what I mean? I think it would balance well with a name that doesn't automatically make you think "Grandmother." (Yet another reason why Myrtle Fern is not a good choice.)
Ideas: Vivian Fern Katherine Fern Lucy Fern Alexandra Fern Zoe Fern Norah Fern Olivia Fern etc.
