Sib Set

I was spending the weekend with a couple. They have two daughters; both in their mid-twenties.

Andrea (prn. Ohn-dre-uh, not with the "Ann" as the first syllable)
Alexandra

Is this sib set weird for anyone else, or is it just me? I found it weird that Alexandra was so close to Alexandria, which is so similiar to her sister's first name. I'm not crazy about the names as stand alones, but I really do not like them in a sib set.

Thoughts?

This is where I chime in again about my hatred of the desires for "matching sibsets". Name a kid for the kid, not for what its older sister is named.

Also, I love Andrea with that pronunciation! My daughter is Annika, and its said "ah-nick-ah" instead of "Ann-ik-a" lol.

I don't think they're that matchy, and they sound nice together.

I don't think they're matchy.
I knew sisters named Anna Sophia and Angela and I thought that was a little close though.

I can't decide if they're too matchy. I hate that pronunciation of Andrea though. Sounds pretentious to me.

Unless the family are of French (or French speaking) origin I have to agree with you there.

I don't think they're matchy though.

I'm with you on this one. Too close.

I don't think they're too close and the pronunciation of Andrea varies depending on the area, I come from an English background and I have always said it Ohn, not Ann. It is like my name, depending on whom says it and where they hail from it can be said Dee-ann-ah or Dee-arn-ah (Deanna). Same as my sister, Bianca, Bee-ank-ah or Bee-unk-ah.

Oh and that is a matching sibset for you, Deanna and Bianca, it was done utterly unintentionally too.

They are very similar, but I don't think it's THAT weird. I mean, I have definitely heard weirder. I love both names individually (though I say Ann-dre-uh), but I'm not crazy about them together. Still, I think they are okay. Especially since they are often shortened to Andi and Alex (I don't know if they do that, though).

They both start with the letter A, but other than that, I don't think they're really match-y.
I like Alexandra; don't care for Andrea.

I tend to pronounce it Ohn-dre-uh because that's what I've grown up with; it's definitely the pronunciation I prefer.

I went to school with twins with the nicknames Tanya and Tonya. I've never understood using similar names for siblings. (One exception being Felix and Felicity because I never thought about that pairing until I was older and knew about the origins).
