[identity profile] skittles22088.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

Somehow, I came across the Wikipedia entry for Dr. Wayne Dyer (I think I was looking at Toy Story 3 and the short that came before the movie).  The entry lists his children's names:

Tracy (with his first wife)
Shane
Stephanie
Skye
Sommer
Serena
Sands
Saje

WDYT?

Same-letter sibsets annoy me, but as far as those go, this is not terrible. I'm more irked by the spelling more than the actual names, though none of them are my style.

Skye ---> Sky
Saje ---> Sage

If it's a noun, I like it spelled correctly. I think Blythe (blithe) may be the only exception (IMO) to this rule, maybe Faye (fay). Also, the extra 'e' on Skye has always annoyed me. Sommer is German for summer, so I don't really mind the letter change, even though I doubt that was intended.

Although I've never been there (but would like to go) I always think of the Isle of Skye when I see that spelling. Having said that, I can imagine that most people who like the name Sky(e) like it because of, well, the sky, and not the island =).

I think of the Isle of Skye, too. Supposedly that's where the name first came from, but nowadays... ^^

I didn't even know that that was supposed to be Sage. I was sitting here trying to figure out how to pronounce it.

TBH, I had to look it up myself to be sure I wasn't confusing the name with another.

Shane and Stephanie don't seem to go with the other names. They don't fit the nature theme. The names aren't awful but I don't like the way they're spelled.

I like Serena. Summer and Sage would be fine, spelled correctly. Sands??

I feel bad for Tracy being left out of the pattern. Why do people do the stupid pattern thing, especially when they already have other children??

I'm not a fan of usually of using the same letter (I still don't find it weird however that my neighbor had daughters named Kristin and Kelly and then when the third daughter was born they realized they already had two K's, so they named the third Kerri [I'm unsure on spelling]).

Tracy, Shane, Stephanie and Serena I'm okay with. Sommer has never been a name I like very much. I have a friend and her daughter's middle name is Skye, and it just sounds so hippish to me, that I just don't get it. Plus, the extra e doesn't make sense to me. Sands and Saje I have no words for :/.
