I stumbled upon a friend of a friend on facebook named Maraya Noelani. I think it is absolutely gorgeous. WDYT?

I knew an Ioana but she pronounced it Yo-ah-nah - Romanian version of Joanna.

The Ioana in my office is Romanian. I feel like the pronunciation of the Ioana you knew is more intuitive.

Since that's literally all I know of Romanian, I wouldn't know for sure - and also it's entirely possible that people would have slightly different pronounciations in different regions of Romania.
I just found it funny because I grew up in a fairly Russian neighborhood in New York and knew a Yana (well, actually I think I knew three, maybe four, but one was a good friend of mine so she's the one I mainly think of) so there was a difference to me when I met a Ioana. Though honestly, everyone called her I-O-na (eye-own-ah, she told me when she was younger they called her Ioana Toyota) so even she introduced herself with that pronounciation most of the time.

I like Damaris a lot. DH and I are expecting Baby Girl #3 and I really wanted her to be Damaris at first, but for a lot of reasons we decided against it--one being that it seems like no one knows how to pronounce it. Even DH and I couldn't agree on the pronunciation. :P

I say "da-MARE-is", he says "da-MAR-is". :) How do you say it?

I really like Maris as a nickname, but Damara is pretty, too.

I found the pronunciation of Ioana interesting because I went to school with a girl with that name, but she pronounced it I-own-a.
