Shuyler is probably a bastardazation of "Schuyler" (the Dutch spelling of Skyler).

As for the middle name... I got nothing.

I like Schuyler, which is the Dutch version of Skyler. I don't know what a Shuyler is either.

It's interesting that you have a BSC icon in a discussion about Schuyler, since Schuyler Fisk played Kristy in the movie (which I actually looked up on Wikipedia to confirm the spelling for "Schuyler" lol)

Haha, yep. I was googling to make sure I had the correct eytomology, and Schuyler Fisk kept popping up.

I tried Google once (got the same results) and then went right to Behind the Name lol

Is it supposed to be pronounced like Skyler? I'd definitely look at it and say Shy-ler.

I think it's supposed to be Schuyler (Skyler)...
Ughhhhh... That spelling (Shuyler) is really awkward/awful looking. =(

okay Skyler is bad enough... and you know why this is probably such a crazy thing? 15 year old... Sorry and I will stand by this but having kids at 15 is kind of sad and well you tend to not have a good idea what to name a child at 15... if I had a kid it might have been named... I dunno maybe Leeloo or Evil or something dumb like that.

If I had had a kid at 15, it would've been named Michael. So, uh, yeah. :P Plus there are plenty of women in their 30s, probably just as many as teenagers, who give their kids ridiculous, awful names.

Shuyler makes absolutely no sense.

"Schuyler" is a very old-fashioned spelling of the Dutch last name "Schuiler". The verb "schuilen" means "to seek cover".

I don't like Skyler to begin with, but the whole Schuyler thing just makes me raise an eyebrow.

I misread "Shuyler" about three times as "Schuyler".

I agree with you on the "Jo" thing. . .my first reaction to that name (despite knowing a girl named Amanda Jo) is Little Women (which, made me like the name).

Oh, and when I tried reading "Shuyler" without the k sound, it came out "Shyler" which just made me think of Shylock. But that's a different topic :).

I knew a guy whose first name was "Jo", and he survived high school just fine. Also, what about Jo Koy, the comedian?? I think the "Shy-ler" part is worse.
