"Virtue" names

I have a friend who's super religious and his family has always given children virtue names. So my friend's name is Evan Justice Xxxxxx and his sister is Catherine Patience Xxxxxx. We were playing around with names and this is what we came up with, wdyt?

Amelia Grace
Charity Lynn
Evelyn Faith
Honoria Truth
Jonathan Mercy
Daniel Justice
Temperance Violet
Avery Zeal
Joseph/Josef Wisdom
Unity Maye

I love Amelia Grace and I've always liked that his grandmother's name was Temperance Rose O'Reilly (waaaay before Kathy Reichs came around) and kind of wanted to name a daughter Temperance.

I hate virtue names. I just... ugh. It's just as bad as people giving their children occupation names.

I've known two different Chastity's that were single teen mothers (not judging them, just saying).
I know a Faith who is an atheist.
I know a Grace, an Abigail Grace, and a Joanna Grace who are all clumsy (and they all joke about the "Grace" being a curse).
I do know a girl named Hope who is incredibly perky and happy but still, you get my point.

While I like the sound of many of them, I am not a huge fan of virtue names because I think they put pressure on their bearer. I like them better as middle names I guess. Names like Grace, Hope, and Faith are used often enough that they have become names in themselves and the meaning is almost secondary. Names like Chastity and Wisdom are something else altogether.

LOL Honoria sounds like Gonorrhea, and that is sooo not a good thing.

I think Evelyn Faith sounds really pretty. Not a fan of the others.

I love virtue names. Charity and Serenity were on my list as first names for ages (and Serenity is still on my list as a middle name).

Right now, my top combo is Adele Serenity. But, since that won't work if I have kids with the guy I might be dating (the initials would be ASS, lolno), we've (he's) given me Chloe Serenity and Sierra Serenity as alternates (he likes Serenity, but for different reasons than me)

I always feel like it is bad luck to use virtue names, that it is practically guaranteed to backfire. Like a girl named Grace will be anything *but* graceful.

About the only virtue name I like is Verity. Zeal is an interesting one I've never heard on a person before.

I'm not personally a fan of virtue names. They just bug me for some reason. I know an Amelia Grace and I kind of think it's a heavily used combination lately. I don't know about Jonathan Mercy because I've always thought of Mercy as a girl's name. I have to admit, though, that I kind of dig Avery Zeal.

I know a girl named Charity. Her mother named her that and then left her with her grandparents and never saw her again. Needless to say, she went by her middle name.

I think that most virtue names just leave people open for situations like that.

I like some virtue names, although find some tacky. I do have a major GP thing for Puritan names, too. I love pairing them with plain, classic names!

Temperance Violet is gorgeous! And Avery Zeal is pretty handsome.

Lol! Sweet. I appreciate, though am not terribly into the uber-Puritan names... like Faint-not, The-peace-of-God, Kill-sin, stuff like that. But I do have a thing for stuff like Remembrance, Perseverance, Makepeace, Lovewell, less crazy stuff like that.

I like:
Amelia Grace
Charity Lynn
Evelyn Faith
Temperance Rose (I really, really like this one!)

And for some reason I'm really into Serenity Isabelle right now.

My favorites are Amelia Grace, Charity Lynn and Evelyn Faith.
