I'm nowhere near having kids, but I have lots of lists of names that I like, and combinations with some middle names (mostly family).
I'm having trouble, though, with the name of one person I'd really like to honour - Barbara. I just don't like the name. Can you help me think of names that have similar sounds, or start with the same letter? I've also thought about looking at similar meanings, but Barbara doesn't have the greatest meaning either...
I really like Bee/Bea as a nickname for a person whose name starts with B, but I'm not fond of most of the B names that I've come across. Brigitte (pronounced Bridget) is already on my list, but it's to honour someone else.
Thanks for any suggestions you can think of!

Date: 2010-07-11 06:03 am (UTC)The problem is that I like Bea infinitely more than I like Beatrice or Beatrix, but I can't decide whether I like it enough to actually use it on its own, since I usually prefer the full forms of names.

Bea (I like it too)
Belle
Bianca
Bethany
Blair
Blanche
Brea
Bobbie/Bobby can be a nn or a "form" of Barbara.

Date: 2010-07-11 06:57 pm (UTC)Even though I don't usually go for this, I tried spelling Barbara backwards. It's Arabrab... which is not a viable name but what about Arabella?

Date: 2010-07-11 08:30 pm (UTC)Also, I've never seen Brigitte pronounced Bridget -- is that relatively common? I was just wondering if she'd always have to correct people who call her "bri-ZHEET."

Date: 2010-07-11 10:21 pm (UTC)Brigitte is my grandmother, and she's German, so it's not even pronounced the same way there - it's more like Brih-GIH-teh. But when she moved to Canada, nobody here would be able to say it that way. She has a niece with the same name who lives here (spelled and pronounced the same way), and I've only heard them mention one person saying the name the wrong way. I don't think I really knew until I was in high school that there was another way to spell/pronounce the name!

Date: 2010-07-12 04:25 am (UTC)I'm not an overly big fan of B names, but I think my favorite is Brenna. I also like Briar, Bianca, Bethany, and Blaire. Okay, maybe I like B names a little more than I thought ;)
