In one of the last posts, it was asked what unique or out there name you'd consider naming your child. I said Dessa because it's really uncommon and other than one of the characters in one of my favourite books "I know this much is true" by Wally Lamb, I've never heard of it before.
I thought I'd never be able to consider it as a name because I highly doubted DH would go for it but guess what? I asked him what he thought a little while ago and he really likes it. Go figure! :)
I'm not a big fan of Odessa from which Dessa is drawn from.

What do you guys think of Dessa?

What would be a good mn choice? (our last name is Brookes)

I know some ppl are into "matchy" kind of sibsets. How does Dessa sound with Abigail (Abby)?

TIA guys:)

You're lucky that you have such a great last name that sounds good with pretty much anything!

I think Dessa and Abby/Abigail sound fine together, though I'm not wild about Dessa. I prefer Tessa.

Actually, the name's growing surprisingly fast on me... My initial reaction was "meh.." but after thinking about it for a few minutes, and seeing it paired with Abigail, I actually like it! It sounds good with your last name, too.

I think it sounds fine, but comes off as a nickname to me, as if her "real" name has letters before it, like it would be pronounced 'Dessa...if that makes any sense?

Though I'd personally prefer Tessa or Odessa, Dessa is nice too.

i actually prefer odessa with dessa as a nickname. as beautiful as dessa is for a child, it strikes me as just that -- a child's name. i think odessa is a more dignified name for a grown adult. of course, if she found that dessa was just fine for her, she could still go by that anyway.

Did Wally Lamb also write a book called 'she's come undone?' or soemthing similar.. about a girl who overeats?

I don't like Dessa much because it's like Tessa with a cold! (someone said that about Dathan being Nathan with a cold & i found it pretty funny)

I like the name, actually, I never heard it before until now and it's so unique. I think it's pretty. Dessa Elizabeth was the first middle name I thought of. I think Dessa and Abigail sounds fine.

I know a girl named Dessa. I like her, she's very artistic. I like Dessa and Abby together, because they don't match, but they work.

Dessa is okay, but I don't think it can stand on it's own. I think it sounds very nicknamey.

I like it...and hell, I'd especially love knowing that I was named after a literary character! :-D
