What do we think about Dina(h)?

I've been kind of obsessed with it lately. Maybe due to Alice in Wonderland.

*edit- Totally didn't think about the Dee-na sound without the "h". Thought it'd just be Deena for that or Deana? I'm talking about DYE-NA, Dinah, apparently =]

I pronounce those both differently. To me, Dina is Dee-nah, and Dinah is Die-nah. I prefer Dina.

Dee-nah or DIE-nah?

I think Dina is okay. Not my favorite though. My neighbors have a daughter named Dina, I think she's like... 4 years old now. They combined their names though to name her, his name is Dag, hers is Nina, so... Dina.

Dina and Dinah are two different names, IMO, the former being dee-nuh and the other being dye-nuh. it's not a ban name though I do not particularly care for it

Dina is an ok name.
It's a biblical girl's name that doesn't get much attention, but doesn't sound unusual or exotic either.
I knew at least 3 Dina's when I was growing up, so that's probably why I think it's a bit dull.

dinah is okay. dina sounds too masculine for my taste, for whatever reason.

Dinah (dye-nah) is okay; I really dislike Dina (dee-nah).

Dye-nah is kind of nice. I don't really like Dee-nah.

I wouldn't do it just because my kid would have to constantly explain how to spell it: Dina, Dinah, Deena, Dena, Deana...

Same with Shawn, Sean and Kaitlyn, Caitlyn, Caitlin, Kaitlin (both names I like a lot but wouldn't use for the same reason)

I also pronounce them differently. I really don't care for either, but I prefer Dinah.

I like Dinah.

I love Dinah, only pronounced DYE-nah, although I know the *correct* pronunciation is DEE-nah, even spelled Dinah. Every Dinah I know says Dee-nah, and that book The Red Tent made a big deal about the pronunciation DEE-nah. So I suppose I could never name someone this knowing it would be mispronounced.

Also, the only spelling I can tolerate is Dinah. I absolutely hate the bunches of Deenas, Denas, Deynas, etc. Blech.

Like many others, when I see Dina, it's "DEE-nuh." Dinah "DYE-nuh" is one of my favorite names, but it's been nixed by the spouse. Like most of my favorites. :(

Oooh, thanks for reminding me of Dinah! It's sort of a forgotten favorite of mine. (Another huge fave of mine is Alice. You can guess what movie I watched over and over as a kid.)

Although the story of Dinah in the Bible has a few different interpretations and is kind of controversial, as a child I always liked the story because it showed that, even though women didn't always get much mention in the Bible, men back then still loved and defended their sisters/daughters/etc. So that always gave it a good connotation to me.

I think Dinah manages to be elegant and sweet at the same time, like a solemn, bookish little girl with big glasses. It's Biblical, accessible, uncommon yet not unfamiliar. It kind of has it all.

It instantly made me think of a cat, even before I remembered that was the name of the cat in Alice in Wonderland.
