Library Names

Two children with interesting names today. A 5-year-old girl named Lourdes, which of course makes me think of Madonna, and I'm not sure how I feel about the name, but she was cute enough to carry it off. The other was a boy, maybe 8, named Adam Etheridge {Lastname}-- he apparently goes by Ridge. I'm guessing maybe he's a junior? I can't think of any other reason to pass up a perfectly fine name like Adam. I think Ridge is a bit soap opera-y, but it's miles better than calling him Etheridge. If he is a junior, they've probably chosen the best of their options.

Lourdes is a wonderful name for an adult. It's nice to see names like that aren't disappearing altogether in favor of nauseatingly cute kid names.

Ether would also be a nifty nickname, as far as odd nicknames go. Maybe he'd turn out to be a real knockout. (HA!)

I really like Lourdes. I'm not wild about the Madonna-connotation, and the town is nice but it wouldn't be my main reason for naming a kid that...I just think it sounds great.

Lourdes makes me think of Madonna, too. I usually on the fence with this name; right now, I'm leaning towards not liking it.

I don't like Ridge, but to a little boy...maybe it seems cooler than Adam (which I always think is kind of plain)? ^^;
Maybe he'll go by Adam later- a lot of my male classmates in elementary and middle school went by "cool" nicknames/middle names, only to go by their more "adult" full/real names when they entered high school. ^^

I know plenty of Lourdes..es so I don't think it's a very "interesting" name. Never would have thought of Madonna. However, I do think of HEAVY LOURDE so I don't think I'd ever use it.
