Brandon
Ethan
Chloe
Ashley
Brian
Brittany
Mallory
Justin
Alicia

I know that most of these are verrrrry popular right now, but I really like these names. The problem is they've already been used my cousins in my family :( Most of them are 2nd and 3rd cousins, so do you think it would be alright to use them?

Alicia- Aleesha? or like silverstone? I only like it if it's uh-lis-ee-uh

Wow you really should have had babies in the 80's! I think those names are so so popular & common that it wouldnt matter if you used them, you can hardly be accused of 'stealing'- every other kid has one of those names.

I like Mallory.

As for stealing cousins names, I think as long as they aren't first cousins it doesn't really matter...

While none of these are names I would ever consider using, if you love them go for it. I have tons of second and third cousins and if I took every single one of their names into consideration before I chose my own children's, I'd end up with about 10 names to choose from (ok.. maybe I exagerate a little bit, but we do have one of everything in my family it seems!)

As long as it's not family you see every single day, it's not a big deal. We have 2 Adam Anderson's in my family and they've been at the same place at the same time twice in their entire lives (one lives in Montana, the other in Kansas)

Brandon - don't like
Ethan - LOVE
Chloe - don't like
Ashley - don't like
Brian - don't like
Brittany - hate
Mallory - not sure. I think I like.
Justin - not into
Alicia - I like it if it is like Alicia Silverstone. I hate it if it is pronounced like Aleesha.

If you see the cousins regularly, then it's probably not a good idea to use the names. If you never see the cousins, no problem.

i like ethan, but not enough to use it. and i love chloe.

our family sort of has a rule that we dont use names that have already been chosen, but every family is different.

I have a story for you. My grandfather and his brother and sister gave their kids all the same names because each of them named their kids after themselves and their siblings.
Also my same grandfather already had a son named Johann from his first marriage but when my mother was born he named her Johanna (incidently, my grandfather's name was also Johann)! Luckily they live on different continents.
Also when my Aunt was born they named her Katherine (nn Katie) even though my grandmother's sister had already named her daughter that, and she went by the same nick name.

Those are extreme examples, but even outside of my crazy family I have noticed "recycled" names.
My boyfriend's middle name is Daniel and he has a much younger cousin with Daniel as a first name. My boy's sister's middle name is Hannah and that is also their (again younger) cousin's Hebrew name.

I guess the moral is depending on the closeness of your family it would be perfectly fine to give your kids middle names that your cousin's have as first names. It may even fly to give them the same first name. Just don't do what my grandfather did and have two kids with a masculine and feminine version of the same name!

now my thoughts on your names:
Brandon - very nice.
Ethan - I really like this name also.
Chloe - this name is too cute for me, but it could be a good middle name.
Ashley - it's nice, a little common now a days.
Brian - a perfectly fine name but not my style.
Brittany - I would never use this name. Pop culture connotations aside, it sounds really snobby to me.
Mallory - I have never liked this name.
Justin - it's kind of blah to me.
Alicia - I don't really like this name either.

unless you're particularly close with/see a lot of those cousins, I'd go for it. I love Ethan and Alicia, and Mallory is pretty as well.

I would still probably use them if the cousins aren't people you see very often. Besides, you're right they are fairly popular names so it's not like your cousins are named Screen and Calendar and you're taking that!

I don't know, I guess so. I just don't understand why people WANT to use names that have already been used in their family though. There are tens of thousands of names out there, wonderful, beautiful, interesting names, and people can't get past using the same 100 or so. I just think it's SO boring and so uncreative.

I like Alicia and Chloe. I dislike Mallory because of the negative meaning. The rest are just blah insignificant names to me.
