What do you all think of Loretta?  I was listening to "Get Back" by the Beatles on my drive home today and thought I kinda like it, and would probably use Etta as a nickname.  Mentioned it to my husband and he instantly said no way because it reminds him of Loretta Lynn which reminds him of country music, of which we are not fans.

I like it a lot, but I tend to like L names... like Leona, Lena, Lenore, Linnea, Loretta... etc.

But I LOVE Etta as a nickname. It's really cute. My great grandmother was Julietta, nn Etta.

Love it. Loretta Lynn, country or not, was pretty badass. Also, the Townes Van Zandt song "Loretta" is pretty awesome too, but...it's about a prostitute. It's a beautiful song about a prostitute though!

I probably just ruined it for you.

I like it. Relatively easy to spell, not contrived or trendy or difficult to pronounce... a bit of substance, but a bit of lightness. Yes. The more I think about it, the more I like it.

I think it's cute, but only because of the Beatles song. The only Lauretta I know is trashy though, so I have icky connotations with it.

Got an aunt named Loretta and had a best friend growing up with the name. I nicknamed her Retina for some reason and, 20 years later, she still goes by it lol.

"But why do you want to be Loretta, Stan?!"

Yeah, that's all I think of. Oh, and Cleveland's wife in Family Guy.

I think of Cleveland's wife, too, lol. ^^

Yup, me too. In my head, I can't hear "Loretta" in any voice other than Cleveland's.

I don't like it at all.
It's...old lady to me. Also, I'm just not fond of the sound (but then I don't really like "L" names in general).

I hate it. It's old, so dated, and ugly to boot. I can't picture it on anybody the younger the side of 50.

My mom has a friend named Loretta, she is about 45. Her name is actually Kathryn Loretta but she goes by her middle name. She looks like a Barbie doll, not "old lady" at all.

That being said idk if I'd want to name my child after a song about cross-dressers, it's the same reason I don't have Lola on my list. I love Drag Queens, don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't name my daughter after a song about them, you know?

It's ok. It's not as old-ladyish as, say, Lorna, but I still have a hard time picturing it on a little girl.

This is my aunt's middle name. When I was young I thought it sounded really old, but now I like it. It's feminine, but it's also strong. The nickname Retta sounds cool too. I'm really loving this name now lol.
