the meaning of Faith..

So I have a funny little comment to tell you all that my dad made about me changing the baby's name to Faith. So right now I'd like it to be Faith Liliana or Faith Olivia. Originally it was going to be Liliana but due to recent events and the split with my abusive bf I feel like Faith is so much more appropriate.

So my dad absolutely hates it. He said in the 60s apparently drug addicts named their babies Faith. I started laughing at him when he said that. Whether that WAS the case or not, its not the 60s anymore and when I and anyone I've asked think of the name Faith, they think of religion, belief in something positive, something good...not drug addicts!

What do you all think? I just had to tell you all that.

I had a flannel babydoll dress when I was in grade 10 (hey, it was the 90s) and my Dad told me it looked like something a pregnant hippies used to wear in the 60s.

The point being, I think he is just trying to discourage you by using a frame of reference that you can't question since you weren't born at the time.

First of all: you're absolutely right. These are not the sixties, and you like the name, so do it!

Second of all, it really bugs me when people dismiss the sixties as the era of drug addicts. Even though I wasn't alive then, I think of it as a positive time, full of idealism, hope, peaceful rebellion and progressiveness (oh, and good music too). So looking at it in the most positive light, just tell your dad idealists named their babies Faith =D

Yeah I get that, I don't view it in that way, although it is relgious. I view it simply as a nice name that means something you believe in, not necessarily organized religion, but I def get what you mean.

That pretty much sums it up for me too. The meaning of the word faith is definitely moving toward an exclusive association with religion (especially Christianity). Not there yet but will be, and most people WILL assume that a baby named Faith was named for religious reasons.

I have a bad association with the name Faith because I knew of some white supremacists who named their baby Aryan Faith. To make it even worse the baby later died from SIDS. But that's just my one example, obviously most people aren't going to think of racists when the hear the name Faith.

Lol! That's a silly reason to avoid the name. Even though I dislike organized religion, I don't think Faith has to strictly be a religious name. It actually makes me think of Faith from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so I get a badass vibe from it. ^__^

I've never liked the name Faith; I don't like the sound and it tends to make me think of organized religion (which I have mixed feelings about).

Definitely doesn't make me think of drug addicts, lol.
If you like the name, go for it! =)
