Number names

Naming your kid after numbers.

I think it was here, but maybe not, there was an article where the author was Jennifer 8. _last name and was from some-sort of asian decent (chinese or japanese or something). Her parents, in her native language's symbols, had put the symbol for the number eight as her middle name because it meant strength (or wisdom or something, i can't recall). In english her middle name is actually Eight, but she shortens it with 8.

Ok, now that i'm done rambling on that, I had the weirdest dream the other night that I had a 3-year-old little boy and I had named him Eleven. I woke up, totally weirded out and then it reminded me of a Married with Children section where they took care of a boy named Seven for a few episodes. I told my boyfriend about all this and he said it's be really funny if we DID name our son Eleven. I hoped he was kidding. But it made me think, would anyone really name there kid a number (in english)?

Would you?

Seven and Eleven sound like ok words for names, but I could never do it. Growing up, age is soooo important to kids--it's as a part of every day conversation as their names. It would just be so tease-worthy when the kid is way younger than 11 or way older than 11.

I like Seven!!

do you like Eleven too then? They sound fairly similar. I mean what is it about Seven that you like?

how about hyphenating them to make a snazzy Seven-Eleven ;D

Cevyn-Ylevyn would be waaaay kewter. Especially if little Cevyn-Ylevyn was conceived there. Wouldn't that be the kewwwwwtest story?!

I wouldnt ever do that to my child, but I remember the character Six from the TV show Blossom and I thought her name was "totally awesome" when I was a kid. heh=)

I think it's ridiculous. Occasionally I see somebody with Seven on their list and I just don't get it. It's not a name!

I read a story once my friend wrote where the character was named Ten. I didn't mind that name, but still wouldn't use it. Seven is ok but i would always think of "Seven of Nine, Tertiary Adjunct of Unimatrix Zero-One."

I should have used my Seven Of Nine icon.

My last name is a number. Trust me when I say you should never do that to a kid.

I always say something to the effect of "Nine... like the number." Because invariably I get asked how to spell it.

This reminds me of the Seinfeld episode when George decided he would name his future son or daughter Seven because it was Micky Mantle's number. This is part of his conversation with Jerry about it:

JERRY: Seven? Yeah, I guess I could see it. Seven. Seven periods of school, seven beatings a day. Roughly seven stitches a beating, and eventually seven years to life. Yeah, you're doing that child quite a service.
GEORGE: Yes I am. I defy you to come up with a better name than Seven.
JERRY: All right, let's see. How about Mug? Mug Costanza, that's original. Or uh, Ketchup? Pretty name for a girl.
GEORGE: Alright, you having a good time there?
JERRY: I got fifty right here in the cupboard. How about Bisquik? Pimento. Gherkin. Sauce. Maxwell House.
GEORGE: (shouts) All right already!! This is a very key issue with me, Jerry. I had this name for a long time.

Um... suffice it to say, I would not do it. Heh, though I really like the poet Horace and I could be persuaded to call my son Quintus after him which means five in Latin. Nah, probably not...

I cannot believe six people voted YES. Uggggh. Gag me. Three, Seven, Eleven, etc AREN'T NAMES. Even when you change them to Thriegh, Sevyn, and Elyvyn.

I would never give my child a shitty "name" like that.

Jennifer Eight is a movie about a serial killer who preys on women named Jennifer, and the protagonist (his potential eighth victim) is a deaf woman. Hot.

The only "Seven" I have ever known was a stripper.

Jennifer 8 is a reporter for the New York Times. "8" is her middle name. It's a word that apparently doesn't translate from Chinese.
