[identity profile] xuse-soapx.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I just found out I'm having a girl and I'm fairly certain she will be Olivia Jane. My boyfriend and I are still playing around with other names, but that's the only one that we both love/is really sticking. Every time I tell people, their immediate reaction is "OMG OJ?!?!" as in...OJ Simpson.

I don't really see the big deal. I didn't even make any connection until someone else pointed it out to me. In all likelihood, most people won't know her middle name unless she tells them or they hear me use it when I'm trying to be stern with her. My boyfriend has gotten a little more weary of the name now because of this.

What do you think? Would you change the name?

I didn't notice. I think it sounds lovely.

My first choice for a girl is Olivia Jeanne and no one has pointed the OJ thing out to me. I don't think it's that big of a deal.

Honestly, unless you were going to call her OJ, I wouldn't worry about it.

I think that these people are overthinking it...

everytime someone says that to you, you can sarcastically ask, "oh yeah, well what is YOUR suggestion?" It's your kid- and no the initials won't really be a factor
my son is Benjamin Joseph after his 2 great grandfathers and I really wasn't sure about the BJ thing- (personally, no one said anything to me) and then we went with it anyway
pretty much we just call him "Ben" "Benny" the Joseph thing hasn't come up since birth...no one ever asks middle names

BJ's a pretty normal nickname, though, only middle-schoolers with dirty minds immediately go to sexual connotations.

Olivia Jane is lovely. I didn't notice, and don't see why you should care either way.

It's a beautiful name. Don't let annoying idiots deter you. This is why we don't tell people our name choices ahead of time.

I think that is an absolute lovely name!!
I really wouldn't worry too much to be honest.
I doubt anyone would think of teasing her with that, especially years down the road as she gets older.

I didn't make the connection. I do not see the big deal. Initials and middle names aren't used enough, unless you actually called her OJ, which I can see from the comments, you are not, so I don't think it would ever be a thing.

I'm not a huge fan of Olivia, but it's a really nice name. I wouldn't make the connection.

I really wouldn't make the connection, especially since you'll call her Olivia and not OJ =). Nice name. Keep it!

I wouldn't have made the connection if you hadn't mentioned it, and I think it's a lovely name!

I wouldn't really worry about it. It's not like you're going to call her OJ. Initials aren't usually a huge deal to me unless they spell ASS or something.

Olivia is the one name that I will completely ignore it's popularity for and name a girl I have that.

But lol, the first thing I thought upon hearing Olivia Jane was "OMG pretty!" and when I hear OJ, I think of orange juice, not O.J. Simpson. Besides, the Simpson case was big during the 1990s; the only people who will associate OJ with that will be in their mid-30s and 40s by the time your daughter's old enough to care.

It's beautiful. I'd keep it.

Olivia is okay and I dislike Jane, but if that was the name I had decided upon, I wouldn't change it.

I don't see a problem with it.
We have Oliver James on our list, and a few people have mentioned the O.J. thing, but seriously? who cares.

How silly! Unless your last name is Simpson, I wouldn't worry. Geez, even if your last name is Simpson, I don't think it's a big deal.

Um...people are weird. Olivia Jane is gorgeous!

Honestly, I would say just ignore what people have said and go with it. People will read into anything these days, it seems.

I wouldn't think of OJ Simpson. I thought of Orange Juice, but maybe it's because I like orange juice.

Olivia Jane is very pretty. I would dismiss any comparisons with the initials. I think it's quite a stretch, and annoying that anyone would try to make you feel uncertain/bad about the name over such a dumb connection.
