I just have to say something that has been simmering for a long time, but I don't want to offend anyone so I've kept it to myself so far. Guess I'm just grumpy tonight ;)

I really don't care for middle names, unless they're supposed to be said with the first name. Evie Rose is fine by me, because you can call the kid by the complete name without sounding silly, while Fergus Charles John seems completely pointless, because really who'll ever use all those names at once?

Ok, I know, some people like to name their kids after relatives, and that's nice. But I just don't understand the obsession with giving the kid a middle name that sounds nice with the first name unless you're going to address the child with the combined names when you talk to/about him/her.

This may be because of my Norwegian upbringing, where middle names are much more rare, but double first names are quite common.

Ahem... anyway, back to the subject of this post.

To some extent I understand: here in The Netherlands double first names are also more common. I suppose, for me personally, I just like picking out a first and middle that go well together purely for aesthetics' sake. I love names and enjoy finding something that flows and looks nice! =)
