that's why i'd never name my child any kind of virtue name hahaha.

for a long time my favorite name was elliott, for either a boy or a girl. i still love it for boys, but i'd never use it on a girl now because when i worked on the phones at QVC, i got so many people with androgynous names calling and it could be either a man or a woman with a deep voice and i was never sure whether to call them ma'am or sir. so if i ever have a daughter, she's getting an unmistakably female name just in case.

Local NPR newscaster is Precious. Reminds me of that, but not in a good way.

well I don't think that any mother would ever call her own child ugly XD but I do see your point.

A few years ago, I encountered a girl called "Cutie". At first, I assumed her mother called her cutie as a nickname, but the more she talked to the child (who was about 10 or 11), the more it seemed that Cutie was her actual name. It's hard to explain, but she wasn't calling her "Cutie" in the same way that some parents could call their kids "sweetie" or "honey"; she used Cutie all the time, and in contexts that most parents would have dropped the term of endearment.

That is beyond words. Not only is it a stupid name that sets her up for merciless teasing, it's a name with nothing TO it. I mean, at least Beautiful means, well, beautiful. Cutie? That's the best you can say about this child, is that she's a cutie? You might as well name her Great Personality.

My sister taught a child named Special. I know I'm a terrible person, but I couldn't help flapping my hand against my chest every time she mentioned the girl.

You just KNOW little Beautiful's school years are going to be a nightmare. I think names like that border on child abuse.
