Alexandra or Alexis or Alexa?

My wife's best friend growing up was named Alex, and they lost contact some years ago and though this isn't why we've started strongly considering this name, it does give it more weight than other names on our list. What do you think about it in general?

Alexa is my favorite of the 3
it was going to be my 2nd if it was a girl...maybe I'll save it if I have a 3rd
I feel like I've known numerous Alexandra's -it's very common where I live and Alexis feels unisex to me

Alexis was the fifth most popular boys' name in Quebec last year. (http://network.nationalpost.com/NP/blogs/posted/archive/2010/04/13/most-popular-baby-names-in-quebec-for-2009-lea-and-william.aspx)

I was born around the time Alexis started becoming popular/common for a girl, and it was one of the names my mum considered for me. I would have been named for her favourite uncle.

It is actually pretty common to use Alexis on a male in the Hispanic community as well. I know a couple of male Alexis'

Just to give an example: actor Alexis Denisof, married to Alyson Hannigan http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0219206/

:)

Alexandra by a landslide. Alexis sounds too much like a status name to me (Lexus) and Alexa sounds nicknamey. Alexandra could be President, Alexa could be a head cheerleader.

LOL! So true.

Alexandra. Alexa sounds nicknamey to me, and Alexis always seems more masculine to me.

Alexandra; it's a classic. Alexa sounds like a medicine and Alexis will always be a male name to me.

Alexandra, or I also like Alexandria, but mostly Alexandra. Very classic and lovely.

Alexandra by a landslide.
Alexis and Alexa seem trashy to me (same with Lexi).

I like Alexandra. Every Alexa or Alexis I've ever known has been a bitchy spoiled brat.

No way, Alex is too common and generic these days. I would say steer clear of any form of the name in general.
If you're stuck on it though, of the three I'd go with Alexis or Alexa. Of the TRILLIONS of Alex's I know, a majority of them are Alexandra's. So go with one of the others.

Alexandra is one of my very favourite names, and I know people with this name who go by Alexa. If you chose Alexandra, you'd be giving the child the option to go by either Alex or Alexa (or many other nicknames - my personal favourite is Alley/Allie).

Alexis is a good name too, but I just like Alexandra better.

Alexandra, by far.
I've always hated the other two, for some reason. =/

i like alexis, but that's probably because alexandra is a little weird to me as an alexandria. alexandra is pretty too though. alexis seems very regal to me for some reason.

I WAS GOING TO MAKE THIS POST! I forgot to though, so I'm glad somebody did. I was just interested.

Alexandra is above and beyond the other two. Alexa comes seconds, then Alexis. I've never actually met anybody with any of those names, though.

Alexandra. It's my best friend's name, but I also think it gives you more flexibility and ages better. Plus, Alexandra has a million nicknames -- from the obvious "Alex" to the less obvious "Sasha," so she could have her pick.

I LOVE Alexandra. It's currently my number one girl's name, and has actually been for some time, so ... that's a feat. :) Obviously that one gets my vote.

Alexa is cute, too, but I see it as more of a nickname for Alexandra ... and I'm not a fan of Alexis at all.

Out of those three, Alexandra. However, I STRONGLY prefer Alexandria.
