May. 1st, 2010 01:41 pmMy cousin just had her first baby, a girl, and named her Katherine Parker. They'll call her Katie.
Thoughts? I think it sounds lovely together even though I've never been a big fan of Katherine- I like that the nn is Katie.

Date: 2010-05-01 08:27 pm (UTC)Maybe it depends on the culture (I'm not from the USA, but that's actually irrelevant because I'm half English), but even if I give my child a name that is commonly shortened, I would still tell others —and teach the child— to use her given name.

I think Katherine (or Katie) Parker is a very sweet name.

Date: 2010-05-01 09:30 pm (UTC)Like I said, I can't speak for every parent, but that's the reason my parents did that. Maybe these particular parents also felt that Katie was too much of a "nickname" to use on its own.

Date: 2010-05-01 11:21 pm (UTC)I think Katherine Parker ______ will sound and look beautiful when called out/used on all official documents/degrees/etc.- much better than just Katie would have- but like I said above, I think the whole family agrees that Katie is a lot more appropriate for an infant/preschooler! =)

Date: 2010-05-01 06:18 pm (UTC)I don't like Katie as a nickname. I prefer Kate or Cate.
Not sure about Parker. Is that the middle name?
