A birth announcement in my local paper today:

Elisa Rose, sister to Besse Dora.

WDYT? The first name is nice, but I think Rose is a little overdone as a middle name. I'm not at all fond of Besse but Dora is ok....not sure the two go together, though.

My question is whether Besse is pronounced Bess or Bessie. Unnecessary letters, why have them??

I know Rose is the new Lynn, but it's still such a lovely name, I can't bring myself to condemn it. And it goes quite well with Elisa.

I've no idea how it's supposed to be pronounced but have settled on 'Bessie', because of the extra 'e'.

Yes, I really like Rose but so many people use it as a filler name. And Elisa Rose is a lovely sounding name.
