Ever since the virtue names post about a week ago, I've been mulling over the name Solace in my head. I like the sound of it and it looks nice on paper. If I ever did use it, I would probably be a middle name. What is everyone's opinion on the name Solace?

ETA: I forgot to say that it would be a girl's name. =]

Solace is a beautiful word and it has a really special meaning, but I personally don't think that it necessarily translates into a great name. I would probably try to find "real" names that sound similar instead. That being said, I don't really know if a lot of people WOULD know what it means. It's not too commonly used anymore. As with anything, it'd ultimately be up to you but that's my 2 cents. :-P

I think it's a lovely lovely word... and would be absolute hell to have to live up to.

I think it's a nice word, but I don't think it makes that great of a name. I'm not a huge fan of nouns as names, even if this one has a really nice meaning. I would probably look for a name with a similar meaning that was more clearly name and less clearly a noun.

I posted about Solace a few weeks back. A lot of people liked it, I don't (however, I think it the whole name of the baby that frustrates me). The world as a whole is nice. As a name, I'm not a fan.

I think it's a beautiful name, first or middle. There are plenty of names that don't have the greatest of meanings, but something like that, I don't think people are going to automatically think of the meaning. If someone named their daughter Comfort, then that's just too much, you know? I think nowadays more people could appreciate it as a name as it stands and not as the noun.

I love the sound of it, and as a middle name I can totally imagine it working. I just can't see calling my daughter Solace everyday, ya know? But it's really pretty and I love funky MNs, so that'd be neat.

Wow I really like it. I've never even thought about it as a name before. It has a lovely sound and meaning. The only problem I could see would be maybe people thinking her name was Alice?

I think Solace would make a beautiful middle name. Superior to the virtue "filler" names like Grace, Hope, Faith (I like Grace a lot though lol)

Solange and Solane/Solenne are two actual names that are close to Solace in sound...you might like those, too.

I could maybe see it passing as a first name, but not everyone could pull it off. I can definitely see it working as a middle name though. I think it's pretty.

I like the idea, but I do have one concern: there are two ways to pronounce Solace. One sounds like SAW-lis, which is okay. The other sounds like Soulless. Not a great name.

I think it would work VERY well as a middle.
