My name is Amy. Would Amelia be too similar to my name to use ? Would it work better as a middle name?

If it was me, I would feel a little awkward. I've tossed around the name Lenore, but my name is Lauren and I sometimes think it would be weird because it's L+en-or and L+or-en, same sounds. I would probably use Amelia as a middle name in your case. That said, as it is not me, I probably wouldn't think much of it. I think it's one of those things that you notice but other people wouldn't really pay too much attention to, if that makes any sense.

I don't think it's too close. I like when names in the family are kinda close, or have similar letters in them. Amy's kind of like a nn, but you'd probably go with Mia or Lia or just the full name which doesn't seem like Amy enough to veto it, IMO.

well seeing as I was brought up in culture where naming your kids after yourself is expected... and where women pass on their name (I was named after my mother and maternal grandmother and my sister after my mother's mother...) I personally don't see a problem with it, I find it sweet.

No, I don't think so. As long as you won't call her anything similar to Amy, I think it's perfectly fine!

i'd say its fine... i've never heard amy as a nn for amelia so i don't see that as a prob and sound wise amy is harsh sounding to me while amelia is soft...

My friend Amy wants to name her first daughter Sophie Amelia or Caitlin Amelia. I think using it as a middle name is a sweet way of linking mother and daughter. Using it as a first name is a little too much, IMO.
