but depending on where you are leonard can be pronounce leonard and not lennerd, as lennerd really doesn't make a lot of sense. so it's maybe they don't need to "put their brain in gear"

I've gotten it a lot in ohio. I've heard it in new jersey and new york. italy, I think canada too. and any spanish speaking person I've met has said leonard and not lennerd

To me, Lyle is the human name, whereas Lisle is a western suburb of Chicago (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisle,_Illinois).

I've never seen Leonard pronounced any other way--just "Lennerd." The only time the pronunciation is exactly like the spelling is when it's Leonardo.

The very first Jordan I ever met was a girl, so I'm used to it as a unisex name. Foster, not so much. I think of the beer...
