I just heard it on a Discovery Health special about autistic children, and it grew on me. I looked it up; apparently it's popular amongst the mormon community of which I am not a member. Thoughts?

i'd be too afraid that everyone would assume my son is mormon to use this. my wife had never heard it before, and said her first impression was that it was feminine-sounding. i don't know if i can get on board with that though. too bad it screams mormon [nothing against mormons, i'm just not one ya know?] because it's a pretty neat name, IMO.

Yeah, definitely LDS/Mormon... Nephi was a prophet in the Book of Mormon scriptures. Cool dude, but I wouldn't name anyone after him. ;)

Yeah, my immediate thought is Mormon. I would assume that any kid named Nephi was a Mormon or at least had a Mormon background.

I know almost nothing about Mormons, so that connection wouldn't come to mind for me. I find it awkward sounding though and don't like it.

Meh, I don't like it. If I were to pronounce it I'd say "NEFF-ee," so I'm sure the kid would constantly be correcting people.

As a Mormon, even I wouldn't use this name. The prophet Nephi was pretty awesome, but so was Methuselah, you know? I can't begin to imagine why a non-Mormon would use it. It would be like... I don't know... a Brit naming their child George Washington?
