My friend's son has a Cabbage Patch doll... the doll is a male named Skylar Thaddeus.

I wonder how they come up with the names for the CP dolls? Is it a random name generator, or are there people who do it... if so, I want to be one of those people! lol!

I hate Skylar, Thaddeus isn't that bad. I have no idea where they get the names.

I thought I read somewhere that they took names from an old baby name book from 1937 and used them on the dolls. It would certainly explain some of the weird names on the older ones! I had one named Marta Zabrina!

I've always wondered that, too. My daughter has one named Maddison Janet. Back in the day, mine were Alaine Selma and Caryl Gertie. My sister's was Sybil, but I can't remember the middle name.

I always wondered that too, and I want to find a website with a list of the names, but I never found one. Mine were named Bernadine Athena and Robert Dillon!

I don't care for Skylar Thaddeus. It seems such an odd combination of an old and a trendy name!

I did some googling, and according to a USAToday interview, they did use a 1930s name book back in the day as [livejournal.com profile] cremepuff suggested. Apparently nowadays they use the Social Security register (see: here (http://www.usatoday.com/life/columnist/popcandy/2004-11-02-pop-candy_x.htm). )

lol they used to have horrid names, i heard they're getting slightly better. My CP (from the early 80s) is Edana Albina. My sister got one 10 years later, named Fritzi Jane.

I read that guests who visit to Babyland General Hospital in Cleveland, GA name the CPKs when they are born. Here is the link to the CPK Babyland website.
