[identity profile] skittles22088.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

I've been thinking about names lately and something's been really nagging me.  My husband's name is Steven and my name is Samantha.  I'm not sure if I should carry on the 'S' theme or not.  What are your opinions on carrying on first initial themes? TIA!

And my top S names:
Sebastian
Sterling

Sabrina
Savannah
Sienna
Sunday
Sydney
Sylvana

I think it's cute. At one point my top girl name was Emma, my husband's name is Eric. If we ever have a boy, he will be without a doubt named Jason, my name is Jenny. I've never not considered naming because of initial matching.

I don't like the idea. It's too many S's and too matchy. That said, I like Sebastian and Sterling is a guilty pleasure of mine. I don't particularly care for any of the girl's names, but Sabrina is okay.

I think that would be a little too much...

...that said, I do like the name Sterling.

I wouldn't purposely go with an S theme, simply because of the confusion that could arise. In saying that, I do really like the names Sebastion and Sabrina.

For me, it's not a big deal; it'd be something I'd notice for a few seconds and then forget about.

I love Sebastian.

My husband, his father and his brother are all starting with E. You can imagine how confusing that was when a letter came addressed to Mr E Surname. Very funny though when the opened speeding fines for each other.

Yeah, this! Plus once you do it for the first kid, you will feel compelled to do it for successive children, and you might end up in a Duggar scenario. ;)

It depends. If your top favorite name is an S name, then sure! If you're doing it solely for the sake of carrying on the theme while you like other names better, than don't. That just seems silly to me.

I think it's tacky.

I think it's kind of too cutesy, and unnecessary, and then I would think that with more kids, it would just continue and that's too tacky. If the only names you like start with S's, then that's fine, but if there are names you like way more that aren't S's, you're just trying to carry on a theme, I think that's kind of dumb.

But, that's not to say that I don't like any of those names. Sebastian (not that spelling though, that 2nd A just glares at me with ugliness) is one of my favourites, as is Savannah.

I come from a family of all As (my parents are Ann and Alan and my brothers and I are Amanda, Andrew, and Adam), it's really not that bad. Really it was accidental with me, but my parents just decided to keep up the tradition with my brothers. I think as long as you aren't planning on having 46 kids, it doesn't really matter.

I'm actually not too fond of first initial themes, I find it kind of lame. If your favorite names just happen to share the same first initial as the parents, then c'est la vie, but I think picking a name you love should be the first

choose a name you like.

My dad's name is Joe and myself and next brother down both have 'J' names because they were the names they liked. My youngest brother is an "M" and so no one seems to notice the repeating "Js"

I looove Sabrina. But I'm not sure I like the connection between names.
