[identity profile] hoping-4-happy.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
So we just chucked our middle name out the window and Baby Hazel is due in less than three months.  We were originally told "boy" and her name was Oliver Wesley, but then we found out girl and my hubby refused to budge on Hazel.  For weeks everyone joked calling the belly "Olivia" and it stuck and was a cute story, so we decided on Hazel Olivia.  I was never 100% sold on Olivia, but the story was kind of awesome, so I went with it.  I found out this week that it is my SIL's top girl name, and she asked if it would be okay if she still used it.  Of course I don't mind, but the more I thought about it, the more I thought I should just let go of Olivia entirely and let her have it since she loves it so much and I don't really.  Anyway, that is how we ended up in this predicament.  Before we knew boy/girl the name was going to be Hazel Elizabeth, but now I'm just not sure.  Hazel is a family name on my hubby's side, so I thought it would be nice to also use a family name from my side.

Which do you like:
Hazel Elizabeth
Hazel Louise (after my mom)
Hazel Lillian (after my great grandmother)

Or any other suggestions that sound particularly good with Hazel?
THANKS!

I love Hazel Lillian. Sort of wish it was Lillian Hazel but you said your husband won't budge on the first name so I think I'd go with that choice.

Hazel Emmeline? I don't like the Ls run together.

I think 3D ultrasounds tend to distort the nose area. My son looked like he was gonna have a big nose too, LOL. :P

Hey, did you get that message I sent you about the Very Berry GM? Was it even you who was looking for that print?

Ugh, my hubby told me to cool it on buying diapers too. :( I must admit, I have gone overboard lately, especially since finding out I'm having a girl. :P

LOL, no kidding! I already went overboard when I was buying for my son, now that I'm shopping for a baby girl, it's BAAAAAAAAD. Bad but fun. :)

Those are all really hard to say. Hazel ends in -el and the names start with an -el sound, so it all kind of blends. Hazelizabeth, Hazelouise, Hazelillian.

i agree except on elizabeth, since the extra syllable is said pretty easily (when i say it in my head, at least). in terms of flow i think that one would be best.

i think hazel genevieve is really nice!

i love all the names you gave as options up there, and lean toward elizabeth but if it doesnt have meaning for you, i would choose one of the others.

What about using a different form of Elizabeth (http://www.behindthename.com/php/related.php?name=elizabeth) as a middle name? Because as another poster pointed out there's a lot of 'el' up there. There's always Bethany, or even Marybeth (as I see there's a few Marys in your family names too?)

Hazel is one of my favorites :)

I like Elizabeth the best as a name, but I think the double -z- sound might be a bit much. Same with all the -l- sounds in Hazel Lillian -- there are just too many l's too close together.

I think Hazel Louise is your best bet. It's nice and classic and I think it sounds perfect.

I think Hazel Elizabeth is the best of those combos, the double L sounds with the other two make it hard to say.

I like Hazel Louise the best. I think Lillian has too many Ls together when paired with Hazel and Elizabeth sounds like a stutter or something because of the -el El- bit.
